How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Made an appointment for 8am this morning, I walk in and they tell me that I have to drop off my pets because the docto (Dr. Harlan) has to do surgeries first. What is the point of booking an appointment if the doctor isn’t even going to be available?? And the receptionist with blonde short hair just completely didn’t care. Will never return to this Banfield again. Just awful.

Dr. Knisley has done nothing but give my dog the best care. I know he loves my dog despite the fact that she is a spicy little jerk. Not many vets will deal with a dog like that and he gives her excellent care

I have been taking my fur babies to this Banfield Pet Hospital for 7 years now. They are always accommodating and understanding. My pets always are happy and not ever nervous when picking them up. Just well cared for and loved. The optimum wellness plans are affordable and really great for my pups as well. Front desk Taylor is just an angel and understands how crazy life gets. She helps me each time and has the sweetest smile. My dogs are healthy, well behaved and love their doctors and techs.

Super disappointed, and would NOT recommend this particular Banfield in Mckinney off of Central next to Home Depot. Not only do they not call you back after they tell you they will with an update on your pet, if you show up between the hours that they tell you to 7 AM to 8 AM they won’t take your pet unless you’re there at 7 AM and make you reschedule. I live an hour away. They give zero accommodation and are not helpful. My dog passed away here last April 2023 and they still tried to bill me for four months after his death. I had to call corporate to dispute and yet they still want my payments and threaten to send it to collections, Even though I’m still paying pet insurance on other pets with them! I’ve been with Banfield for over 15 years, paying their monthly pet insurance for more than five pets throughout the years and yet this is the constant treatment I receive at this particular, Banfield. Just terrible customer service and the fact that they do not value long-term customers in any way. Apparently all they care about is the $.!

Truthfully i NEVER write reviews but i am so frustrated I feel like I have too. To start off i am not the biggest fan of petsmart to begin with but I adopted a kitten two weeks ago and they had given me a coupon booklet, inside that booklet was a “free exam at banfield pet hospital”. My kitten was having some diarrhea so i figured it wouldn’t hurt. Right off the jump they looked at my cat for 5 minutes and gave me a “treatment plan” consisting of almost $400. I was able to choose what i thought was necessary, and agreed to a little over $200 worth of tests, vaccines, etc. Whatever, this is not the reason i’m writing the review. Not even 3 days after i get home, I notice a FLEA on my indoor kitten. I have had him more than a week prior to my visit with NO issues plus the rescue i adopted him from had him vetted. I truly have no doubt my kitten got fleas from here. Like i said, he is indoors and literally has been secluded to one room to give proper time for him and my dog to adjust. Regardless, my dog has been on flea prevention for years!!!!! This is beyond frustrating. My cat still has diarrhea and now has fleas as well. AND i’m down $200!!!!! My one star goes to the staff who were fairly nice but other than that please don’t bring your animals here!! Petsmart will truly never get my business again, not that they really ever did in the first place!
