How to Save Money at Veterinary Dentistry Specialists
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Love Dr. Miles and all of her staff!! They were able to get my little kitten (who was all of 19oz) in and get her jaw all fixed up. I have been a fan of Dr. Miles ever since she was at GCVS off 610. She removed one of my cats teeth due to stomatitis and we got 12 extra years with her! The kitten that she helped is named Twix and her poor little mandible had a horrible injury. Dr. Miles is so knowledgeable about all things dental related and takes the time to explain everything. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! I will be forever grateful and thankful to VDS. They helped to give Twix a chance! And she is thriving! Pics show before surgery, night immediately after surgery, and then 2 progress pics.

Oh my gosh, I can't recommend VDS enough. Our kitty is 17 years old, with mid-treatment lymphoma and a heart murmer, and he had stopped eating or drinking due to his sudden tooth issues. Thank you so much to Dr. Miles, Dr. Simon, and the staff. They saved our boy and did such an amazing job. Pros: 1) Our cat needed emergency dental surgery, and they fit him in the very next day even though their schedule was very full for weeks. 2) Dr. Miles was so kind, so knowledge, and had an amazing mix of realism and reassurance. She didn't shy away from explaining the risks (ex. of the anaesthesia), but it was also so clear the very high expertise and the individualized care approach of Dr. Miles and the anesthesiologist Dr. Simon. I felt informed, but also confident our kitty was getting the very best possible care. 3) Dr. Miles and the staff were communicative during the day, made sure I agreed to the game plan, and kept us informed. Dr. Miles also gave detailed post-surgery instructions 4) Dr. Miles and Dr. Simon were thorough in their pre-anaesthesia examination, and made sure they approached our kitty's treatment in the best possible way for him. 5) Edit: It's been a couple days, and Pounce's recovery has gone well. He's so much more himself again now, and he's back to loving his wet food. Cons: 1) The only one I can think of is that VDS is definitely on the pricey side. However, there's a reason for that - in this case, you get what you pay for. Worth every penny 🐈

My 12- year old doggie was referred from our vet (Tanglewilde Vet) to Veterinary Dentistry Specialists in Katy for his teeth. He was having severe tooth damage and needed to see a specialist. Dr. Chanda Miles was incredible with explaining everything and calming my nerves! Her bedside manner is wonderful! After we had our meeting, I was given the range of cost that the surgery would be ($4,824.35-$6,791.59), which to me was well over double what I had been quoted in the past, so I will say they are very pricey (but worth it). To move forward, you must pay the low-end cost immediately, so I did. After I left, I was kept updated via text of Weiss's surgery which comforted me. Then Dr. Chandra called and explained everything one more time and asked me some questions before she would move forward. In a few hours, I picked up my pup with his medication and we were on our way! Unfortunately, at pick up, they did say I owed about $500 extra so beware that the low-end is probably NOT what you will end up paying. Be prepared to pay more at pickup. OVERALL: PROS: 1. Amazing bedside manner 2. Clean facility 3. Highly skilled specialists that you can trust 4. They checked in a few days after the surgery to see how my pup was doing. CONS: 1. I was not given an emergency number in case something were to go wrong as they are not open Fri-Sun (I was told to make sure I know of an emergency vet in my area but I found it odd that VDS didn't offer an emergency line) 2. The extremely high cost

We are the B.B. Garcia's May the 9th 2022 (Monday 1530 hrs.) was a tragic event for us. Our Miniature Schnauzer was attack by a mixed Pitbull. Her jaw was fractured and severe injuries in San Marcos we had to take her to Allure in New Braunfels, Tx they did what they could considering the serious condition she was in, we brought Bella back to Houston and on Tues the 10th made NUMEROUS calls to multiply facilities and all of them could not or they were several weeks from being able to help. THEN VDS came up and they said they could see Bella the 17th at first which was still a few days with her being sedated and not responsive due to the medication (pain) she was on. Then VDS called and they might have an opening sooner and it came that we were able to bring her in on the 12th (Thurs.). ALL I can say from the moment Dr, Chanda Miles and her Staff took over starting from the Front Desk (Nicole) to the back it was an incredible process of restoring of her jaw and recovery. Dr. Miles and Staff (front Desk (Nicole))). They TRULY came though for us/Bella. The word THANK YOU doesn't seem justice enough for what they did for Bella and US!!!! But I know they Know that. They (Dr. Miles) TRULY has the BEST interest and CARE for your fur baby they REALLY understand that they are Family not just a pet or customer, but a member of your family I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. they are SPECIALIST! I submitted some pics. of Bella Thank you
