How to Save Money at Affordable Pet Clinic Kingwood

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have been clients with Glade valley for years. In this time, the original veterinarian retired. Another veterinarian took his place, but then she left. This clinic now has a third owner/veterinarian/staff...and they are AWFUL. Sadly, this clinic is absolutely not up to the standards at all that it used to be. Our cat was experiencing difficulty breathing. We took him in, the veterinarian did a half-assed examination and barely listened to his heart and lungs, spent the rest of the examination talking to me about his concerns with my cat's eye condition (that was addressed in previous visits with the other veterinarians), then told me my cats breathing issues were more than likely due to crystals in my cat's urine because he had a history of having that problem and the breathing difficulty was because he was in pain. Uh. Ok. That doesn't make sense to me. This is when my red flags started going up. I could tell this doctor didn't have a clue. You're concerned about my cats urine when I'm telling you he can't breathe. A few hours later, my cat is still really struggling to breathe. I took him to an emergency vet clinic. They can immediately see he's in critical distress and get him on oxygen. Sure enough, he has congestive heart failure. How do we go from 'your cat probably has crystals in his urine' to 'your cat has congestive heart failure'. This new veterinarian at Glade spent a total of 10 minutes looking at my cat, didn't look in my cat's mouth and see his gums were white because he wasn't getting enough oxygen, didn't offer any blood work, nothing. He just listened to his heart and lungs for two seconds and said his lungs and heart were fine. He didn't even offer pain medicine for his original diagnosis that his problem with breathing was due to pain from crystals in his urine. If you think he's in that much distress that he can't breathe why not send us home with SOMETHING?? Unfortunately, at the second clinic we ended up saying our goodbyes to our sweet kitty. His fluids around his heart were just too much (which they were able to hear right away using a stethoscope and this was only three hours after my visit with Glade Valley). Pet parents beware: this clinic is not what it used to be. We still have a dog in our family and I'm calling tomorrow to have his records transferred to another clinic. I'll be damned if I subject another of my fur babies to that shoddy care.

They just did surgery on our 16 year old chipoodle, removed a massive 3 oz mass and she is doing great, she is healing very well and the staff really went beyond measure for our dog. My wife loves that the Dr will call her directly to explain what are any issues. We have also taken our 14 year old lab to them. They are a great veterinarian practice we highly recommend taking your animals too!!

Treated me like garbage because my cat was sick. Took ages to get back to me with results (I understand being busy but I was told the next morning) I was told an estimate or $300 then charged $600 no one discussed any of this with me. At any point. No costs were told to me. Nothing. Then when I asked for records they took forever to send them to me. When my normal vet called for records they never got back. So what exactly did I pay $600 for? My cat is still sick and I had to take her to another vet.

Very nice and professional. Reasonably priced. I've had great experiences each time I've brought my two dogs in. For my most recent visit , due to Covid, a staff member came out to my truck to pick up my dog, brought him back and took my payment. The veterinarian also came out and spoke with me about his treatment. Highly recommend this clinic. Edit: A few months ago I had to put down my dog of 13.5 years. The staff was so sweet and kind throughout the whole process. I can't thank them enough for how they handled a very difficult time for me. They even sent a card in the mail signed by their staff and little card with the rainbow bridge poem. I absolutely love this clinic.
