How to Save Money at Aztec Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We recently had to send one of our furbabies to the Rainbow Bridge. The staff at Aztec Pet Hospital was very caring and helpful during the whole process. Our cat, Tux, was treated with respect and love. I cannot thank Aztec enough for their care during a very difficult time. They will definitely be caring for Tux’s brother, Skeeter, for all his health care needs.

I am absolutely floored by the compassion and empathy the people at this office have. Last week, I lost my best friend of 20 years Pookie. It was traumatic and intense but the staff were kind and comforting. I just received a card from them with Pookie’s nose and paw print. They didn’t have to do this, but even in the end Pookie touched their hearts. To have a piece of her like this is precious to me and I am eternally grateful to this place. Thank you so much. If I could give them a billion star review I would.

We made an appointment for my feline that has been to Aztec before for vaccines, and neuter. And surprisingly they were able to get us in the very next day. The staff is so awesome, and informative. They educate me on things I need to know about my pet, and things they’re giving my pet. They never did any tests, or anything without making sure I agreed to it and understood what they were doing. I appreciate that they don’t try and make me do things that aren’t necessary for the money. They are very well priced compared to other vets. Aztec has taken care of a couple of my furbabies, and is always my go to vet for our needs. Every one is so friendly at this office, and you can tell they love what they do. They are great with my animals, even the skittish ones. This time we saw Dr Danielle Anderson. And I cannot say enough great things about her. She was so friendly, and even applied a med on my pet that I could have done. I asked if she could do it, as my pet doesn’t fight them like they do me. And they were more than willing. Dr Anderson really loves what she does and my feline was so relaxed with her. Animals are a good judge of character after all. They took great care of my baby, and he’s now good as new and healthy! Thank you Aztec for always going above any beyond for the furbabies of Bell county!

This is thee best vet to go to ! Dr Kuczek is an excellent vet ! I had gone to another vet that was misdiagnosing my dog and Dr Kuczek knew exactly what to do . My dog is healing and I’m amazed! Dr Kuczek really cares about the animals and treats them like his own ! I need to give 1,000,000 stars for this vet! You will be so glad you came to this vet and you will wish you had done it sooner like I do I !The whole staff is so compassionate and kind too!

I can’t say enough good things about Aztec! My baby was sick. I called so many places to see who could see her the soonest. We went to 2 vets prior and they could not figure it out. I finally took her to Aztec. Their staff showed so much concern, compassion, and empathy. All my questions were answered. They were very patient with me. Dr. Cabral was such a blessing! Judy was also a big help. I did not catch the techs name but both of them were amazing! The ladies at the check in and out counter were also great! I spent a week stressing and crying over my baby. They truly put my heart and mind at ease. But most of all Ms. Oreo is back to her normal self. Thank you Aztec!
