How to Save Money at Eastlake Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Recently moved here from California. When I purchased my home I was happy I had Eastlake Animal Clinic literally around the corner because eventually I'd get a dog. What a great staff. Dr. Lozano was friendly, professional and was very engaging and approachable. Chance and I will be back soon...hopefully 20 pounds leaner!

They have always been amazing, they always took excellent care of my Baby girl, the vet on Wednesday was understanding and caring when it came to Baby's finally day. Supportive and understanding didn't rush us and gave us plenty of time with her. He allowed me to hold her as she passed. The staff has and always been wonderful. Thank you. For making this horrible, difficult and loving one a pleasant one

If I could rate this place a zero I would. Both veterinarians are great but the front desk staff and management just don't care. We were turned away on a Saturday because we didn't have an appointment and they, "Had taken their last walk in for the day because they close at 2 pm." We arrived at 12pm. I promise that if we didn't feel like we had an emergency we wouldn't have been there to begin with. We love our GSD and seeing her vomiting and in pain is difficult and scary. We were willing to be seen after every other pet there but instead they fired our dog and told us to never go back there. Their priority isn't in caring for their clients but rather in keeping to their office hours. Apparently attempting and pleading to be seen caused a scene and that's not something they'll tolerate. So if you're fur baby has an emergency on a Saturday and you don't have an appointment and attempt to be seen 2 hours before their close time, it's probably not a good idea to come to this place. And if you attempt to reason with them you risk getting fired. As a nurse practitioner I can tell you that if you brought your child to my clinic I wouldn't be telling you to take your child somewhere else because we'll be closing in two hours and have stopped taking walking ins. Not good business practice!!!

This place has good vets, but the front office personnel don't really care. My dog was seen here once and when we needed the vet to see her again due to vomiting and pain, at 12pm on a Saturday, the front office staff refused saying they had "taken their last walk-in of the day" (2 hrs prior to closing). I insisted and told them I would wait however long. The "practice manager" came out and I told her everything all over again. She insisted we go to West Texas Vet clinic or Airway emergency clinic in town because they were all booked up. I told her that those places have been known to kill animals and we were more comfortable with this clinic, and we would be willing to wait however long it takes. Then another guy came out (an older bald guy), and I explained everything all over again, once more, emphatically. He gave me the same response. I asked them, "So, the vet will not see his patient? She has been vomiting and has abdominal pain, and even though you are open for 2 more hours, he won't see her?" They responded the same. I said, "So, everyone sitting here knows that if they bring their sick animal to you in a pinch, they wont be seen, even if your clinic is open and their animal is in pain?" Then, a very kind woman stood up and said,"Look, my dog is just here for a checkup, nothing is wrong with her. He can have my appointment and I can just reschedule for another day. If his dog is sick, they can take my spot, is that alright?" The staff eyerolled in unison. Bald guy went to the back, came back out and said, " The doctor can see you but it will be the last appointment, after all the animals have been seen." I said that was fine, I was willing to wait. I thanked the kind lady and told her we would be happy to return her kindness in any way. We put our dog back in the vehicle and turned on the AC as I waited out front. Bald guy came out of the clinic with some papers and told me, "These are your dogs records. She will no longer be seen at this clinic. We won't have you coming in here and making scenes." I told him what I thought, grabbed the paper, and he said, "Don't come back. Don't come back." Had to seek help elsewhere.

I was disappointed reading through the selfish reviews left by self-centered pet parents, so I thought I'd take it upon myself to respond to those reviews specifically. This is your reminder that this is the ONLY vet clinic for East El Paso past Eastlake. Meaning that the caseloads here can include thousands for a very small clinic doing their best to tend to as many as possible given their resources. If they turn you away and ask you to go to an emergency vet clinic, or one with more capacity, I promise you they're doing it because they really cannot help you and your pet, they'd do more harm taking pets in knowing they're at capacity. Have some empathy for these hard working Vets, Vet Techs, etc. They're only trying to help.
