How to Save Money at White Rock Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We recently boarded our dog here for a mandated quarantine, which has been an incredibly stressful and emotional experience for us. The staff truly understood how difficult it was and went above and beyond to make both our dog and us feel as comfortable as possible with the situation. They accommodated his diet requirements without hesitation and made sure he was well cared for during his stay. Everyone we interacted with was extremely thoughtful, friendly, and clearly passionate about animals. These are truly people who love pets and understand the bond between dogs and their owners. We are so grateful for their compassion and care during such a challenging time. P.S. Special shout-out to Connie for the extra love and care she showered on our dog while he was there. Thank you so much, Connie!

This is the best “furbaby” hospital ever. My dog was so sick. I didn’t make appointment, I didn’t call, I just showed up (just like a human hospital, you might have to wait but my “furbaby” is worth it). He was having diarrhea and vomiting for four days because I was trying to do home remedies which failed. I am a nurse so I thought I could handle this. On the 4 day I thought I best take him to a veterinarian. When I walked into this place, it was clean and the people were friendly. We Never been there before due to being new to the Dallas area. Dr Hawthorne is very engaging and explained everything. Touya (Sheba inu) is 100% better. Dr Hawthorne gave us medication and some sample dog food. Thank you for caring for my furbaby (my human)

Like many of us, I love my dog Toast like I gave birth to him. He got very sick with bloody stool, vomiting and not eating. Dr. Hawthorne at White Rock animal hospital was so kind and thorough without immediately going to expensive extremes. Vet med has gotten very corporate and this hospital still has that beautiful small family feel. The doctors are so accessible and you're not just talking to the front desk person. I called panicked and immediately spoke to Dr. Hawthorne, he was knowledgeable, kind and reassuring. I showed up the next morning in tears (helicopter mom) and he greeted me at the door, told me everything would be ok and personally gave me updates, calls and pictures of my dog son throughout the day. This man is the real deal. He CARES. He truly understood the worry and emotion I was experiencing over my sick baby. I'm beyond grateful for this practice still doing things old school of personal attention and care. Thank you Dr. Bob and the team for taking care of Toast Malone.

Had another exceptional experience with Dr. Williams and her team! They take such great care of my rescue pup Radley. Radley usually thinks everyone is suspect and scared. However, not here! He ran in wagging his tail and happy to see is thoughtful and caring friends! This is the only vet I will ever trust with my pups. Thank you again Dr. Williams, and your incredible team of professionals, Radley and I appreciate your dedication and care! ❤️

We took our dog in because she wasn't eating or drinking. We walked in and the front desk lady got us in a room immediately. We got blood work, stool testing and they took care of our dehydration concern. The vet was matter of fact and transparent about getting a diagnosis and cost. But she was also compassionate. Our dog was nervous but she acted at ease with the staff. I appreciate the way we were treated. UPDATE: Dr. Williams called us this morning to check on Shadow and gave us the test results. All good stuff. We are going to try her suggestions on food. I am pretty sure we have found our new vet. Again thank you WRAH for everything!
