How to Save Money at VCA Central Expressway Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wow first impressions were GREAT!!! What a wonderful experience with a great staff and vets to make me and my room mate and our two little babies feel so welcome! We will definitely be coming back to this vet hospital.!

While the doctors have been great, the prices are much higher than other vets in the area. For instance, the quote to neuter my dog was over $1,000 more than several other quotes I received from reputable vets. I’d encourage you to shop around for more affordable coverage.

I am happy that my cat got better briefly after being treated recently, however a month later he is sick again, & may die...I need him to go back for another treatment or prescription, however I cannot afford the $60 or $70 it costs just to see the vet..not including the medicine he needs(which only costs between ($30/$40). I am very sad to learn that VCA hospitals offer a free first check up, which I previously knew...when I called to get my appointment, I asked about this & the receptionist hesitated...they are charging new clients $25 at the central expressway location only, & im pretty upset I was charged this considering I could have spent that on the follow up treatment he needs now...aside from that, the staff & vet were all very nice to us. Update 5 months later: My cat died a few days after I wrote my prev review, after speaking to Lindsay the receptionist, Dr refused to see my cat without paying them $82. Despite the cat already being treated there the month prior for the same thing. Instead of just letting me buy the medicine, they tried to force me to come in to get more money out of me. They could have educated me on my first visit about common cat respiratory problems, the benefits of using daily products like lysine ect,to help manage & control these kind of issues that are life long for some cats. My poor cat died because I'm not wealthy, & the people who are supposed to be there for animals are just greedy..I've learned alot about his condition since his death, no thanks to VCA for not educating me on it. I've been so heartbroken, its taken me months just to come back to this review..smh

This office is amazing, Dr Cobb has been my Vet for more than 20 years, his direct approach and knowledge of animals and their behavior is truly amazing. I have also experienced great care from Dr. Schieppler as well as a lovely lady Dr. In addition the support staff and front office ladies are hands down some of the most attentive and caring individuals I’ve had the pleasure of encountering. If you need a vet with heart, that listens and puts the needs of your family pet first, this family of caregivers should be your choice. I conclude by saying your bill will always fairness for services. Jon Ross

All I have to say is wonderful things about VCA north central expressway! Dr. Cobb is a wonderful doctor who you can immediately tell loves his job and animals. He is kind and very intelligent. Dr. White is also very knowledgeable and has a driven passion for fur babies! The techs Andrea and Michelle took care of my babies as if they were theirs. They both have taken care of both my dogs for years and I honestly have had only wonderful experiences! They are efficient, polite and understanding. The reception staff is nice and helpful and they do not hesitate to ask if there is anything else I need! 10/10 vet, I highly recommend!
