How to Save Money at Lonestar Feline Health Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Gandy and her crew have been a godsend to our family. No barking dogs to scare our babies, and every single one of our kitties have been treated like family. The whole team remembers their names every time we go in- I can’t say enough positive things about our experience with this clinic. Dr. Gandy goes above and beyond, and I am so thankful we have a cat-only vet that cares so much. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with our cats care 🐾

As a first time cat mom of a senior with chronic health conditions, I noticed that many vets seemed more knowledgeable about dogs and I decided to seek out a vet who specialized in feline care. That is how I found Lone Star Feline. Dr. Gandy and her team have done an incredible job of creating a calm and cat friendly environment. They even have cat TV playing in every exam room. My little guy loved to hang out and explore around! Dr. Gandy spent so much time with us and I can tell she truly cares about her patients and is passionate about cats. Unfortunately my sweet boy crossed the rainbow bridge but it is a comfort to know that he received the best care possible and was surrounded with love and compassion during his final weeks with us.

Lonestar Feline is hands down the best cat-only veterinarian in Dallas!! The staff is so welcoming and patient with every kitty that comes through the doors, and Dr. Gandy is just as wonderful. We love their approach to preventative care as well as the entire thought-process behind making the office a safe and calming place for kitties. Would recommend them to anybody!

Dr. Gandy and her staff are so kind and helpful. They went out of their way to be there for my 5 month old kitten, Alfie when he had a bad reaction to a vaccine. I’m grateful to have a vet that I can trust and am confident that they have the best intentions. Wouldn’t recommend any where else to take your kitty! Plus their office is very cute!

Nice staff. I left without the problem resolved. I took my cat to another clinic before this one and thought I would get a second opinion from a cat specialist but left with the exact same results as the first one. My cat is still dripping diluted blood from which I still believe his mouth. We have 2 cats and separated them for half a day to make sure it wasn't the other cat and it isn't. So we are left without any treatment or detection of the problem. Also, we drove 1 1/2 hour to get there and before he could be seen they said he needs a rabie shot (almost $100) that's required but didn't let us know prior otherwise I wouldn't have went by bin desperate need of wanting to know what's wrong with my cat I did it. Just shy of $300 for office visit, anal glands expressed , sedation for the anal glands which never needed sedation for, and rabie shot. My cat left still bleeding literally paid for all of above that did not need, I told them he just had his glands expressed also. I wouldn't go there again. Back on the hunt for a different place. Like I said they are nice, this isn't personal, it's about my cat's health and hopefully some of this can be helpful to others.
