How to Save Money at VCA Dallas Animal Specialty Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I had a disappointing and upsetting experience with the internal medicine vet and her team while my dog was being treated here. I would not recommend this vet hospital based on my experience. The only positive aspect was that the internal medicine vet correctly diagnosed my dog with a serious fungal infection (histoplasmosis) that was causing her GI issues. However, after starting her on antifungal medication and then doubling the dosage after 2 weeks, my 2 yr old dog developed severe vasculitis (lesions). These lesions were all over her body including her paws which made even walking very painful for her. When I brought up my concerns during our vet appointment, the vet told me that the anti fungal medication was NOT the cause and told me try Duoxo shampoo on my dog — which I had already been using on her since she was a puppy. The vet provided no clear guidance on how to proceed or what to do about the horrible lesions. I ended up taking my dog to a vet dermatologist who tested the lesions and it turned out they WERE caused by the high dose of the anti fungal medicine and this type of reaction occurs in 5-10% of dogs receiving high doses of this medicine. If 1 out of 10 dogs can have this severe reaction it seems like something an internal vet specialist should be aware of or at least look into and research before dismissing. I also easily found this side effect myself by doing a quick Google search, which is why I directly asked about this at our prior VCA appointment. My dog was put on medicine for the vasculitis by the vet dermatologist. Additionally the receptionists were consistently rude/unhelpful whenever I called with questions and we waited more than 40 minutes in the lobby for our last appointment. As just one example, I called to ask if the vet had called in my dog’s medicine to CVS because CVS still hadn’t received it. The receptionist told me “our pharmacist has gone home for the day”. I asked “ok well do you know if the prescription was sent in by the vet before she left? I thought it was the vet who called in the prescriptions, not a pharmacist?” Receptionist: “Again, our pharmacist has left for the day”. Since transferring my dog to a different vet specialist who put her on a different anti fungal medication, she has improved significantly.

A BIG thank you to Dr. Lopez and the team at Dallas Specialty Hospital. She saw my cat, Milo, for a GI lymphoma consultation and treatment plan, and the entire experience was exceptional. Dr. Lopez was incredibly thorough, warm, and friendly, and we never once felt rushed. She took the time to answer every question with patience and clarity, which brought us so much comfort. The hospital itself is new, beautiful, and impeccably clean, which adds to the sense of professionalism and care. Milo even left with a free cat toy that absolutely made his day! I’m truly grateful to have Dr. Lopez and Dallas Specialty Hospital on Milo’s care team as he enters his senior years. Their compassion and expertise mean the world to us. Highly recommend!

We had an excellent experience with Dr. Martin at VCA Dallas Animal Specialty Hospital when we brought our dog, Rockie, in today. Dr. Martin was not only highly professional and knowledgeable, but also warm, compassionate, and genuinely invested in Rockie’s wellbeing. She took the time to explain everything thoroughly, answered all of our questions, and made sure we felt informed and comfortable every step of the way. We are truly glad to have her as part of Rockie’s care team and look forward to her caring for him going forward. The entire office staff was also outstanding. From check-in to check-out, everyone was patient, understanding, and incredibly kind. It is rare to find this level of service and empathy, and we are so thankful for everyone at this clinic. Highly recommend.

Dr. Snell and Dr. Martin have truly done an incredible job caring for our wonderful girl, Cali. A few months ago, she was diagnosed with HCS and copper hepatitis and not long after, we learned she had also developed diabetes. We are now under their care and are praying and hoping for the very best. There are no two doctors or care team we would trust more with Cali than them. They came highly recommended, and they have absolutely lived up to that reputation. Hands down, they have been complete rockstars in handling such a serious and complex situation. Please pray for Cali and pray for us as we continue this journey. 💛

Please read this before you take your fur baby there. I waited for months for an appointment with Dr Janasek. I was so exited because of her background and training. When the appointment came she stated my baby has very high blood pressure, high pressure in the heart and lungs and did slight adjustments of the furosemide. She did NOT explain what options I have, what’s the possible consequences and alternatives we may try. She was EXTREMELY UNPERSONABLE and disinterested in my case . 2 days later due to the high pressure in her heart she tore her atrium. I called and begged many times for appointment to adjust her meds and see how we can manage the right heart failure she went into. The answer was next appointment is in a month. My baby (her patient) tore atrium and she couldn’t care less. My sunshine passed away. Her heart gave up. I wish with all my heart that doctor to feel the pain I feel, the helplessness I felt and the grief I’m going through. If you are a doctor be a human first.
