How to Save Money at Vanguard Veterinary Clinic - Cypress

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I appreciate the entire staff at Vanguard. They are patient and kind even with my crazy, wild, but loving dogs. For example, my oldest fur baby doesn't like dogs other than his sister. They make sure the lobby is clear before I bring my fur babies in.

My dog Carmelo has been sneezing like super crazy pretty often so my husband and I got concerned. We called the clinic and their earliest availability was in 2 days. Male receptionist is very nice, friendly and informative. The female doctor diagnosed my dog concern. She did prescribe some medication for his issue. The facility is really clean for a vet clinic! There was a time the vet took my dog out of the room for further examination for like 20 minutes and my dog did not come back traumatized or with any negative showings which is a good sign. I recommend everyone to go here. We use this company mobile clinics when our doggies are due for vaccinations.

Vanguard mobil units are such a fabulous idea, thank you for taking care of all the sweet animals. Can you PLEASE add a few of the pop-up tents for all the people with their pets to stand under, while waiting in line. It’s record breaking heat in the parking lot, the sun is beating down, the dogs have to be held b/c the pavement is too hot, and people are overheating. If you need extra tents, please put out memo on your company wish list, we will get tents to you all. When folded down they don’t take up much space and it looks like y’all have plenty of space left in the trailer y’all pull. Thank you very much for all you do!!

I took my Buddy in for a teeth cleaning last Thursday. I have called twice and no one returned my call. I called again today July 11. 2022 and no returned my call. I need a return phone call. My Buddy is not feeling well. Something has changed at this place. Money is top priority instead of care for my pet. I buy the dental chews from them. The manager sold me 15 which cost over half of what a whole bag would cost. Very disappointing. I wanted a whole bag. I didn't ask for 15. Was she selling me their trail samples? Be careful in leaving your dog. I was told to drop him off at 8 am and pick up at 3 pm. I will never drop him off and leave him with no one ever again. If you can't perform services while i look it's a no for me. The manager said he didn't need pain medicine. Buddy has not eaten and i told whoever took my message that today. I went in for a limp and ended up spending almost 400.00 to run test and blood work for the teeth cleaning. No one called with results. I had to call because the pain in his leg was worse. I received an email about a appointment reminder i knew nothing about. I called and the manager said ignore that but my dental appointment for Buddy was still on the books. I pay an additional 290.00 for the dental cleaning (no tooth distraction) and a pill for worms. The manager said he needed it. I despise dishonest gain. How can you trust someone who is just in it for the money. Someone need to return my phone call please . I am surprised there was no follow-up call for this procedure. Nonetheless, i have been calling and request a return phone call.
