How to Save Money at Horizon Veterinary | Animal Clinic & Surgical Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We had such a wonderful experience! The open-concept setup allowed me to stay with my dogs the entire time, which made the visit so much less stressful for them (and me!). Dr. Rainer was incredibly informative, patient, and kind—explaining everything in detail without rushing. Every staff member we interacted with showed genuine care and compassion for my dogs. It’s clear they truly love what they do. We’ve definitely found our new vet and will be back! Highly recommend.

My Australian Shepherd was in pretty bad shape. He got his head stuck under the wood fence and two strays on the other side nearly tore his head off! His skin was torn at the back of the neck and pulled loose from the scalp clear to the eyeballs; a torn ear and beneath the other ear was a large tear gaping the skin open, plus bites all over his head. Had I have known the extent of the injuries at the start it probably would have been better to have put him to sleep but with all the blood and fur all I could see was the gaping open gash under his ear. I took him to Dr. Rainier at Horizon Veterinary. After the girls shaved the fur off we saw all the other. Dr. Rainier went to work on him. He tacked his scalp back to his head and put in drainage plugs and sutures where needed. I think my poor baby is going to make it. The staff at Horizon is so caring and helpful. One of the ladies even made me coffee and cleaned the blood out of my car! Horizon is a very good place and Dr. Rainier is very comfortable to talk to and he explains everything he’s doing.

Finding Dr. Rainer and his office has been a blessing! Scheduling an appointment was easy without having to wait over a week to be seen. Once I arrived the staff was there to greet my pup and I and were very friendly and attentive. We were taken back to the room quickly and were in and out within an hour for our visit. The staff, Emily, and Dr. Rainer did an amazing job at going over past medical history and creating a plan for future care. This was my dogs easiest vet experience and we were even able to draw blood without further restraints besides a cone and myself. My boy loved the staff and was happy to be there and eager to explore and give kisses. This is rare for my anxious pup! Definitely cannot recommend Dr. Rainer and his office more. You will not be disappointed. Quick, thorough, efficient, and attentive. Also very clean!

Our dog was recently diagnosed with IVDD, and the team at Horizon Veterinary has been absolutely amazing throughout the entire process. From the moment we reached out, they’ve been kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable — helping us understand each step of the treatment and what to expect. Their online appointment scheduler is super user-friendly, which makes booking visits so convenient. I also really appreciate their drop-off option, which has been a lifesaver on busy days when our schedule is tight. You can tell everyone here genuinely cares about both pets and owners. We’re so grateful for their support and the excellent care our dog has received. Highly recommend Horizon Veterinary to anyone looking for a compassionate and reliable clinic!

Dr Rainer and his whole staff were amazing. Had an emergency with my pup. His vet could not see him they were all booked despite it being an emergency. Dr Rainer looked at him ran tests diagnosed the problem treated him and he is great now. I love that they let me go back with him to do bloodwork and X-rays. Knowledgeable caring vet care. We now have a new vet.
