How to Save Money at ZippiVet
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Vet for 5+ years to my 7 y/o boxer. I initially booked because of the convenience of location and ease of care. It’s easy for me to book, easy to check in via vehicle, which is a measure taken since Covid and I think is helpful to minimize the stress of multiple animals being in a small waiting area. They’ve consistently provided excellent care from routine to emergency visits. My dog recently got a large mass removed from his front leg and the level of communication they provided gave me so much comfort. They truly care. They might be pricey, but I’ve never had anything but lovely care. We are hoping for many more years of being loyal customers.

This is for South Austin location: This is the best Vet we could ask for. Specific shout out to Andrew as well. We have a big dog that is intimidating/scary to some, but a big baby at heart. Andrew recognizes this and knows exactly how to handle our pup (Along with the rest of the staff too!). We are grateful to have not just caring assistance, but the utmost professionalism in their handling and consultation during our visits.

I went to ZippiVet for my puppy's initial checks and vaccinations and was very happy with the service and price of those, but when it came to her spay surgery, I received a quote ($1200-1400) that was 2x higher than any other independent vet for the same services (bloodwork, anesthesia, spay, meds). I chose to find another vet. ZippiVet was bought by a private equity firm (VetCor which is owned by Harvest Partners) that knows the maximum price it can charge in the area. Private equity firms have sadly bought up lots of Austin vets but you can still find locally owned ones if you look.

We brought our healthy 2-year-old Great Dane, Whopper, here for a neuter. That decision has destroyed us. After surgery, all we received was a text saying he was ready for pickup. No call. No conversation with the vet. No explanation. Just a short instruction sheet and a tech who handed him over. We never saw or spoke to the doctor. The surgical site looked raw and open, not properly closed. It didn’t feel right. But we followed every instruction. We kept it clean. We watched him closely. By day 3, he was panting, lethargic, not himself. We took him to another ZippiVet for a follow-up. They sent us home. On day 7, Whopper died. We are suffering every single day. The guilt, the regret, the anger. It’s unbearable. We trusted this place, and now we’re living with the weight of that trust breaking our hearts. We will never forgive this experience, and we will never bring another animal here again.

This review is for all the staff at the South Lamar location and Dr. Zee & Dr. Kingstad. We had to write a review after our most recent visit because we are so grateful for the extra time and care that went into our dog's appointment. Our pup has vet anxiety but Dr. Kingstad and Emily took their time to make sure we had a smart game plan and our dog was comfortable. After 3 failed attempts to get his bloodwork done this year *at another vet,* we switched gears and took our dog to ZippiVet. Dr. Kingstad got it on his first attempt, not even a hematoma! Thank you Emily and Dr. Kingstad for working with our boy. Lots of gratitude for you! Dr. Zee worked with our kittyboy earlier this year and we had nothing but good things to say about him. Our cat is not a fan of going to the vet, but Dr. Zee and his team were total pros and got bloodwork without a problem! I'm very impressed and have a lot of respect and trust for the South Lamar Zippi team. I have past experience working at another veterinary clinic and I'm confident that I know a good & compassionate team when I see one! Edit to add: I'm also a fan of the quality of vaccines they carry. TF for rabies canine and PureVax, adjuvant-free, for feline rabies.
