How to Save Money at Five Points Veterinary Norvelt
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I don’t write reviews often. So please excuse the photo of my goofy child. Haven’t bothered to change it. Prob won’t. 🤗 This vet has the most comfortable atmosphere I’ve felt at a vet in a long time. The comfort came from the people there! I appreciate that feeling. Sometimes you can worry you’ll be judged going to the vet, not having a history to show, and an older pet. I did not feel judgment at all. Just concern, and received help. Also understanding on what I could afford. I think I’ll be taking my kitty to be seen here as well..which was a planned visit, but is now on hold as this visit was not. Thank you Five Points Vet!

Informative, compassionate and fast! I called for an appointment and received one the same day and emergency surgery scheduled immediately next morning. ALL staff were SO KIND and price was reasonable. We will be going back in the future as a regular patient for current and all future pet kiddos

Today my wife and I had an experience that we would like to share. We called Five Points (New Alexandria) this morning to see if they would be able to see our cat, Teddy. We explained that Ted was shaved at their Norvelt location on Tuesday and also examined where they noticed breathing anomalies. We were told this might be due to allergies so they treated him accordingly. On Wednesday we took him to the New Alexandria location due to heavier breathing following his Tuesday appt. They indicated that he could have asthma or something bronchial due to the untreated allergies but overall a very healthy cat. Today he took a turn for the worse and we asked if they could re-examine since he was there two days this week (X-rays, examined by two doctors, ability to identify changes, etc) and since they were confident that this was something benign. They explained that both locations were booked and could not see him and without any hesitation, referred me to another clinic to be treated. I asked if they could spare 15 minutes to look at him since they conducted thorough tests the other day and I could drop him off like we did to allow the doctor to see him when they had time. They stated there are no appts and they would schedule an appt for next week. I indicated that he does not look good and think he should be seen sooner because this doesn’t appear to be allergy related. I called back later today and asked if they could email the files and X-rays so we can go to another vet to reduce the costs. I explained to the receptionist my viewpoint of how Five Points handled the situation given that we have been taking our animals to them for years and when we needed them the most, they told us to go somewhere else. The individual did not like the feedback, placed me on hold and proceeded to hang up. They never called back and never sent the files as promised. I never would have expected this from this clinic. They have been extremely good to us over the years and very surprised to see the unprofessionalism that occurred today. We would never expect special treatment but when you have loyal customers, you would think they would make the time to do something else outside of sending you to another clinic knowing how hard it can be to find one/ accept new patients. Hurts me to write this review but I know how much these pets mean to folks and I do not want you to have the same experience when your animal is in need.

My dog was not a regular patient here but when our previous vet wasn’t able to get us in and referred us to an emergency vet I started calling around and this was the first place that could see her. We were in 2 hours after calling. Everyone was so nice and professional. The vet was wonderful and treated my dog very well. Had a Lyme test that was positive and had the results in 10 minutes. Gave her shots of meds in the office and sent us home with everything she needed. It all cost way less than expected and probably 1/2 of what I would pay at my previous vet. My dog is feeling so much better in just a few days and we will definitely return when needed.
