How to Save Money at Premier Pet Dentistry & Oral Surgery

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Premier pet dentistry were fantastic and we are so pleased with the care our cat Puck received. Puck's teeth were a mess and we were advised by his cardiologist not to have him sedated unless a board certified veterinary anesthesiologist was present. I did my due diligence and was optimistic about Premier given the great reviews. PPD got Puck in very quickly and due to a cancelation, got him into surgery the same week. Instructions provided by Premier were clear, detailed, and we felt confident we could provide the aftercare needed. Puck is back to his bouncy self and we are so pleased we found Premier. Although his smile is less toothy, he is cuteness incarnate, and his breath is bearable:) We knew he was in the best care possible and we wouldn't hesitate to go back for Puck or any of our other animals.

Dr. Martin and her team were absolutely wonderful when my cat Winslow was injured. He had been shot with a BB gun and either fractured or dislocated his jaw. On top of that, it happened on a Friday right before a holiday weekend when everyone was closed. Those 4 days were awful. After multiple ER trips, an infection, and Winslow not being able to close his mouth, eat, or drink, things were looking critical for him, and after a ton of phone calls begging for vets to help get us an appointment ASAP, I was terrified that we were running out of time. I found Premier Pet Dentistry online and called. Right away I was able to talk to a real person (vs a recording at other places), and they were able to get us in the next day. I didn’t know anything about them, but I knew time was of the essence, so I was just praying that they were reputable enough to help. When we got to our appointment, my cat Winslow was incredibly distressed. He had been in a feral cat colony for years. He was socialized to me… and only me. But he had never been stuck inside. So now— being in pain, hungry, trapped, separated from his brothers, shoved into a carrier and hauled back and forth to ERs for fluid injections to keep him stable before a surgeon was open post holiday…? He was back to his feral roots. But Dr. Martin’s team was unintimidated by that. They allowed me to be the one to handle him and get him wrapped in his comfort sleeve so that we could keep his stress down during his exam. And when I handed him over to them, they were gentle and spoke to him sweetly despite the hissing. (I have to say after years of working with ferals that not every vet shows the same respect to them that they do to more socialized cats, but everyone here approached him with such calm and such respect.) During our consult, there was a cancellation for the next day, so they scheduled him for surgery right away! Post op, they took the time to walk me through every step of his care— including the more intimidating parts like tube feeding. Anytime I called with a question or concern (and admittedly that was almost every day), they were quick to pick up the phone and offer guidance. Cady and Amanda handled him (and my calls!) the most, and I can’t sing their praises enough!! Dr. Martin is the reason why Winslow is still alive (and thriving!!). It was daunting to trust someone off of the internet during such a stressful, terrifying ordeal, but I am so grateful that in Winslow’s moment of need, we gently landed in the best of hands. From the bottom of my (and Winslow’s) heart(s), we are so incredibly grateful. Thank you for giving us the gift of so many more tomorrows!!!

It's hard to express how grateful I am to Dr. Martin and the team at Premier Pet Dentistry. Dr. Martin excised a cyst the size of a plum from my dog's nasal cavity that had formed there and was impeding his breathing and quality of life. In addition to their amazing expertise and experience, Dr. Martin and her team are incredibly compassionate. My dog is doing great, and I couldn't be more relieved. Thank you Premier Pet!!!

Our dog, who has moderate/severe heart complications, got a bunch of extractions done here. His regular vet wouldn't even consider doing the extractions. Premier Pet Dentistry was great with him and he recovered well and quickly. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Dr. Martin and her team at Premier Pet Dental were absolutely amazing. Our 19-year-old dog, Henry, was in severe dental distress with a painful abscess. Given his age and underlying health conditions (heart murmur, kidney disease, and asthma), we were worried about the risks of surgery. Dr. Martin was incredibly compassionate and understanding. She prioritized Henry’s comfort and quality of life, and she and her team were confident in their ability to safely perform the necessary dental procedure. The surgery was a complete success, and less 5 teeth, Henry has recovered remarkably well. It's truly amazing to see him back to his grumpy but lovable self, enjoying life without pain. We are eternally grateful to Dr. Martin and her team for their exceptional care and dedication. I will also say the cost was not nearly as high as I've seen with previous animals and especially at other pet dental specialists. This will be our dental vet speciality clinic go-forward.
