How to Save Money at Walnut Grove Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Crawford has always done the her best for my two English bulldogs and have treated them with loving care. I got a new puppy Dr. Crawford got her in quickly I had concerns about her health she was very skinny. She didn't do a full puppy exam on her I had to ask her to, every shot she got from the doctor she would scream out in pain the rest of day if you touched the area. I have never had that happen with any of my other dogs.I kept going there because of the care she gave my bulldogs. My doodle needed to be spay so I called and told them she just finished her heat cycle ( this was around the second week in March) the receptionist asked the doctor and said we would have to wait a month I said ok can we schedule now and I was giving April 24. I was called several times yesterday one about her heat cycle and one that my dog was given anesthesia but they couldn't do the surgery because of the anesthetic machine was broken and would not hold pressure and would have to reschedule. I have worked for different veterinary clinics and this has never happened before. When I picked her up they brought her out to me and said" she peed on her leash you might want to hold here" they didn't even wash it off. There was one time I called about price of the spay and the receptionist told me" legally they had to do a heartworm test before surgery even though she had been on prevention since she old enough.

I highly recommend Dr.Crawford. I've been taking my dogs to the clinic for a year now and she always listens to my concerns whenever they come down with something. I've been to three other vets in the area but prefer her clinic to the others.

Walnut Grove Animal Clinic has surpassed all expectations I ever had for a vet. Dr. Crawford is an expert in the field all while being extremely welcoming, compassionate, and empathetic. I would recommend this clinic to anyone who wants to feel confident in the treatment of their fur babies.

We had an emergency situation with our senior dog this past week and Dr. Crawford and her staff were absolutely incredible. They got us in same day, two days in a row and provided the most sincere, client and pet-centered care that we have experienced. The experience we had with our beloved dog and the care we received on one of the most difficult days of our lives is something we will never forget.

Please take your animals here. She is literally amazing. I took a stray I found to Dr. Elliot and it was a HUGE mistake. He neutered the dog and provided no cone, painkillers, or at home instructions, needless to say this dog was SUFFERING after getting his ORGANS TAKEN OUT. He also diagnosed the lump on his side as a "tumor" and that "it needed to be removed immediately". Dr.Crawford correctly diagnosed the lump as a bruise which would explain why it has shrunk it HALF of its original size in the past 3 days. She also fixed Dr. Elliot's mistakes and has taken great care of this dog. She sits on the ground with your pets and gets on their level. She helps you out in whatever way she can. She is super duper patient with your pet and takes the time to ask the right questions. 10/10 Rookie mistake not taking the dog to Dr. Crawford exclusively.
