How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We always have such a great experience here. Dr. Reynolds and vet tech Kayla are so patient and kind to our big nervous dog. Dr.Reynolds is honest and straight to the point. She gives great advice and we always leave feeling relieved and happy we took our doggo in to get the care he needs. We moved out of the Norman area but we will happily take the 40 minute drive to see Dr.Reynolds and staff at the Vetco Norman location. Highly recommend and trust them fully.

First off… I had neglected my dogs care and let his vaccinations lapse. I could give an excuse but no one would want to hear it. It’s my fault. I own that. I’m trying to get better but I’m working with limited resources. So I wanted to catch up his rabies shot first and do a heartworm test just so I’d know and maybe come back later for the other stuff since the physical exam was done and I’ve have a plan moving forward to get him all taken care of. The vet tech was awesome 👏 but I don’t remember his name. That’s the only reason this is getting 2 stars is him. The vet I saw for like 4 minutes and told me he was overweight and only suggested options that were very expensive. I just need to do the best I can now. I’m trying. I used the free exam coupon so maybe she’s not making money off it or something. I can’t even go to the dentist or eat the best food myself. I’ve never had a veterinarian just be as unfriendly as she was. I was even looking at calling back to get the flea and heartworm preventative that they suggested but I think I’ll just go to another veterinarian. I’ll just buy what I can get online and take him somewhere else in the next couple months.

Do not bring your pets to the vet here!! Doctor Belcourt was extremely unprofessional and so rude. My wife took our cat to the vet for a general checkup and she was greeted with HORRIBLE bedside manner and the most rude vet either of us have ever met in our lives. She revealed that our cat had a heart murmur and proceeded to be extremely condescending when my wife asked for further information on how to handle this. The vet tech was very helpful and recommended x-rays due to the issues we had noticed, but when the vet (who took 30 minutes to even come into the room) entered she literally told my wife the x-rays would do nothing and when asked about an EKG she rudely stated that “they didn’t even have that here”. Furthermore when asked how urgent the diagnostics needed to be done (due to our need to even find a vet that could conduct these diagnostics ) she said quite flippantly “he could grow a clot and die tomorrow” which is absolutely insane and is a sign of someone who should not even allowed to be a vet anywhere. Absolutely horrible place with a horrid vet.

Super great with my dogs and very transparent with everything. Dr. Belcourt island Caelyn is who we had this time when my dog was bit and they were very understanding, informative and compassionate. We have been here several times with our babies and the whole staff is amazing. Definitely worth driving from Midwest City and we will continue taking our babies here. Thank you Petco staff for being so exceptional with my big babies( Molly, great pyrenees and Myrtle, Great Dane)

First time Vet appointment/visit, with a highly shy and timid puppy (Katsu). Staff were super friendly and helpful as soon as we walked in. Caelyn was very attentive and knowledgeable for me to easily make informed decisions for Katsu. Genuinely pleased with our overall experience provided by Dr. Belcourt and staff at Vetco. Thank you.
