How to Save Money at Cat Clinic of Norman

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The level of care here is awesome, from the warm greeting the receptionist gives you to the vet tech that does the intake. Dr. Edward's and her staff are top-notch professionals who are compassionate with your fur-baby. We noticed changes in behaviors in our dear Ariel (15 years old). So we took her to the Emergency Referral Center since it was after hours, and the Cat Clinic was closed. The fine folks here discovered she had terminal cancer and to prepare ourselves for saying our goodbyes. I wanted a second opinion, so I called the Cat Clinic, and they were able to squeeze us in. After numerous tests, Dr. Edward's concurred with the diagnosis. We were devastated. She took great care in our situation and placed Ariel on Home Hospice care. When we had the arduous task of letting our Ariel go, she was there for us. Dr. Edward's guided us every step of the way. With her guidance, we were able to have Ariel in our presence for a little over two weeks. Our Ariel was treated with dignity and respect upon her passing. It was a tremendously sad day that day, and they gave us the time needed to grieve. If you are looking for a great vet, look no farther than here. You won't be disappointed.

I have never, ever in my life been to a vet that was this wonderful. I’ve cherished a lot of cats in my life, and have been to a lot of vets. This has been, hands down, the most informative, thoughtful, and compassionate vet visit of my life. I left feeling like I learnt more in one hour of conversation than I had in seeking help across (literally) dozens of vet visits across the last few weeks. I felt listed to and like my cat was cared for. All I’ve wanted was to figure out the steps we could take to help my furry potato and make him happy again, not just throw a bandage on it, and I feel like I’m getting everything I could wish for. Ten out of five stars, this vet should go on TV as a celebrity or something. Also, shout out to the tech with the little Law and Bepo keychain, you were a real one.

6 months ago: I took my cat Angel to this cat clinic today for a follow up appointment. I was taking him elsewhere until they overcharged me for his appointment and had me treat an ear infection with dog medicine costing $80! I've also tried one other veterinarian hospital, trying to find a good place to bring my cats. This Cat Clinic of Norman is awesome! My cat was happy during his visit, and Dr. Elenore did an amazing job! She did a thorough check up and noticed minor gingivitis and chin acne on my poor cat, and told me exactly what to do to take care of both. That's something I feel my last vet should have noticed. 6 months later: My cat Angel saw Eleanor again, after having urination issues, and she diagnosed him with FIC and gave us a great treatment plan (seeing photo if you're interested)! I also loved that she was very knowledgeable about his condition. It's wonderful to see him happy again too! I couldn't be happier having come here. They always do a great job making sure my cats are comfortable and happy. The wait isn't too long either. They're also friendly and affordable, which is very important for me having three cats. Thank you, Cat Clinic of Norman!

If I could give more than 5 stars I would! After moving to OK several years ago, we had taken our Gracie to several veterinarians, Worst. Experience. Ever……. Without naming names! Fast forward to 2 months ago, My Gracie was diagnosed with a mast cell tumor, high grade, very aggressive. Extremely rare in cats. Dr. Edwards did everything she could with medication to slow down the spread of the cancer. Within 2 months my Gracie wasn’t eating, lost weight and was just so sick. When it was time to let her no longer suffer, Dr. Edwards came to our home, we were able to keep Gracie comfortable and in her own surroundings. All of her staff, Kelly, Candace and the others, especially Dr Edwards are compassionate, professional and caring! Thank you all!!!!
