How to Save Money at Tender Loving Care Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

There are vets, and then there are *VETS*. Dr. Pepin is the latter. Her office was the only one out of DOZENS I called (even my regular vet) that was able to get me in the same day for an urgent appointment for my dog. Throughout the entire visit, she explained everything she was doing/noticing, explained what tests or procedures she recommended, why she recommended them in the order she did, why they were important, what the results would tell us, and how much it would cost. She delivered some difficult news with grace and kindness, while being direct enough to make sure I was prepared for what's likely to follow. She made sure I was well-informed and had a clear understanding of everything, but despite being so thorough in her explanations, she never came across as indifferent or 'clinical'. Quite the opposite, in fact. She utilized a level of communication that made me feel at ease, and a depth of compassion and warmth that provided invaluable comfort to both my dog and myself during a really scary, emotionally difficult time. It's absolutely evident that her role as a veterinarian is one that's close to her heart. It really MEANS something to her to do what she does, and to do it so well. And it's apparent that the staff she employs hold those same values as deeply as she does. I truly believe that some people are just... destined to do or be certain things in this world. And from only one appointment at her practice, it's clear to me that Dr. Janine was a vet LONG before she ever even applied to veterinary school. She has always been a veterinarian because that's just who she IS. This is not simply a job for her, it is a CALLING. And the care that she devotes to her clients (both human and animal!) reflects that. In spades. Though I wish I had met her under less dire or painful circumstances, I'm grateful that I met her at all. And while my regular vet's office is wonderful and provides exemplary care, Dr. Pepin's practice is absolutely, unequivocally the right fit for me and my beloved pets. I'll be switching my bigger babies (Great Danes!) over to your care when they're due for their next round of vaccines. With any luck, it won't need to be any sooner than that. I hope you're not planning to retire any time soon, Dr. Janine! It would be a great loss to the pet parents of this community. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking such great care of my dog, my spirit, and my faith in humanity. You and your staff are a blessing.

Dr Pepin and her entire staff has always made us feel at home. They are are so welcoming and extremely compassionate. Yes, there are great vet's out there, but not like TLC. I have been with them for many years, and cannot imagine our pets being loved, cared for and made very special with another veterinarian. This is not just a business for Dr. Pepin, this is her heart and soul. Just one of the MANY reasons they are fantastic. Even our dogs wagged their tails at each visit, They were never frightened. Recently, a few months ago, I lost the best dog I've ever had. Her name was Gia, five days later we lost our older dog Cookie. While this was almost the worst thing I've ever experienced, Dr Pepin and her staff was most compassionate especially during that heart wrenching time, when I had to say goodbye to Gia and Cookie. I have had many pets in my life, and many veterinarians, but TLC has our hearts. I am so grateful to Dr Pepin, and her entire staff at TLC, especially during that difficult time. Thank you Dr. Pepin and staff with much love. *** Our newest addition is Ruby. Ruby LOVES Dr Pepin and the staff just like our other two babies (Gia & Cookie). When we say "wanna see Dr Pepin?" oh, she's going to her leash, and the tail wags off her butt. We arrive, and it's still the same. I think TLC has that affect because it's sensed she's a loving doctor, and loving staff.

My older dog Penny has quite a bit of fear and anxiety when it comes to Vet visits. So much so that it has been years since she has been able to get routine care. We recently came in for a follow up after some emergency care and TLC has changed her completely. They take her anxiety concerns so serious that we were able to set Penny up to be comfortable and relaxed during her check ups. She’s like a completely different dog. Cannot recommend enough!

Very pleased with my experience here. Staff is friendly, caring and organized. I liked that the doctor didn’t push unnecessary treatment or tests. Also liked that you wait in your car until they’re ready with your room, my cat appreciated not having to wait with a bunch of barking dogs. :) Will be back for sure!

The location is convenient. What I don’t like is that they price-gauge their customers. I have a 10lb mini schnauzer. They said she needed three shots and quoted me a price for the shots and wellness visit. I said OK. AFTER I paid, they said they could only administer two shots on the first visit due to her size. I was instructed to bring her back the following week for the third shot. I did, and they charged me an additional $55 wellness check fee for the third shot. Two wellness check fees, a week apart, “because the doctor has to check the dog before any shots.” They did not include the second wellness check fee in the original quote, of course. I am in the military and did an 18-month deployment. My dog stayed with my fiancé in upstate NY while I was gone. The vet in NY did not charge two wellness check fees a week apart and said that was ridiculous. I called several other vets, and they all agreed with the NY vet. I called Tender Loving Care when I returned to Medina with my dog and asked if they were still doing that. They said yes and have no intention of changing their policy. “The doctor’s time is worth money.” I would give them 2.5 stars if I could.
