How to Save Money at Oliver's Dog & Cat Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog and I had a great experience here! All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. The facility was very clean. My dog is quite anxious and they were so patient with her and tried to make her feel comfortable. Dr. Coronato is very kind and thorough. You can tell she really wants the pups and kitties to be healthy. I am so glad I found this clinic.

been with olivers and dig since my first dog bear was a puppy. He is 3 years old in human years. The doctor recommend a heart deworm pill for my dog, not because any signs for precautions. So i took it the information but i never put him on it due to my reasons.I brought my new puppy cartier. He started with his shots there. Keep in mind they charged for everything , the Tylenol before the shot, they charge to clip the nails and will do it without asking or informing you that you will charged. She insisted on purina puppy food , since that her clinic is collaboration and acutally had my dog puking and shitting , yes I got got the puppy brand she said and i got alot since she seem so educate to throw away. this place is very money based, i called to see what can we do about my dog teeth health i got told since i didn't bring my puppy cartier back to finish his shots and went to aspca where it free. that my dogs should go else where, they declined my dog health , knowing he been with them off personal reasoning . Which is very unprofessional, unfortunate. Since i didn't take doctors recommendations on heart wormer i should find a new doctor. This place is about their best option and it always the higher option . She judges how you take care of your fur baby not hers ! Instead of helping them the best way they can . It’s either what they think is right and you agree or they won’t see you . I will be pushing this to the very farthest extent. I don’t play about my animals . And dental is very important and dangerous. Now I have to waste time finding some else due to a doctor being angry I have my own mind for the pets I take care of . She declined my dog care after 3 years of my times and money ! I will be heard they will be justice served towards this establishment. Also she only have 2 rooms always over booked .

Such a lovely clinic to visit with my dog. As frequent as our visits are and for the time we’ve been seen by Dr. Coronato, the nurturing care and hospitality have never changed. It’s always a good day for my pup and me when we visit Oliver’s dog & cat clinic. You should expect thorough and insightful information regarding your fur baby and a genuine connection between you and the staff. I’m so happy we’ve found Dr. Coronato ♥️

I've been going to Oliver's since 2019, and I cannot recommend it higher. Not only are they reasonably priced compared to other vets in NYC, you can also tell they genuinely care for each patient that comes in. DR Coronato helped me through very challenging times with my senior cat, and I'm happy to say my cat is 20 years old and thriving! The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the decor is tasteful and very funny which makes the visit that much more enjoyable for me anyway. I'm moving out of state and will truly miss this vets office.
