How to Save Money at Barre Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Disgusted with the lack of empathy amongst the Dr and staff. They are hard up for money, and truly do not care about the well being of animals. My dog had a large hematoma on his ear that needed to be addressed, and I had set an appointment for 4:30 on a Friday. On the way to the appointment I stopped at the gas station 7 mins away from their building, where my car proceeded to have issues starting back up again. I tried to call right away, but had no cell service in the area. I could not even call for help at this point. After about 15 mins of sitting in the heat with my dog, a stranger at the gas station offered to help me. It turns out I need a new starter, as the gentleman tapped on it with a wrench to get it going again. From that point I raced over to the office and had to leave the car running in the parking lot. I walked in and was greeted by a back turned to me, as the male receptionist made sure to whisper to someone else in the back, so I couldn't hear what he was saying. There was no one else is the building and I pulled in at 4:45. A frizzy red headed woman rudely popped around the corner to say they were “closed” for the day and I would have to reschedule. I understood this as I was unable to call. Knowing I was now going to have to my dog to emergency, I kindly asked if the missed apt fee could be waived. I tried to explain what happened and the woman smirked at me, while shaking her head dismissing what I was saying. Its like she thought I was lying about my reasoning for being late. Its almost as if she took joy in turning us away and charging us. Mind you, Ive spent hundreds of dollars here in the past couple of years on my 2 dogs. Finally she rudely says “its up to the Dr”. I had her go ask, as the Dr couldn't even be bothered to come up front and talk with me herself. After the woman came back to the front, I was told the fee would still need to be charged. They didnt even offer to reschedule right then and there. The male receptionist just stood silent the entire time, which was super awkward. Like I said this apt was a sick visit for my dog and I was really worried about him. The hematoma was quite large and hot to the touch. The Dr could have spared 5 mins of her time as the day wasn't even over yet, to at least give me some reassurance or advice. Again the building was EMPTY!! Dr Neno and staff were more concerned about their missed appointment fee than anything else. I will not be taking my pets back here, and neither will any of my family that I recommend to them in the past. This Dr and staff do not care about your pets at the end of the day. Truly a disheartening experience, and my dog was the one left to suffer at the end of the day.

Dr. Neno and her staff took care of my dachshund Rocky all his long life. At the end, when he had to be euthanized due to old age and illness, he, and we, were treated with gentleness, dignity, and compassion. I highly recommend this practice.

They were able to get my cat in for an appointment the very next day. However, I was going to be running late so I called to let them know and they went above and beyond to still take care of my baby. They kept my cat there all day and squeezed her in, worked around other patients, and provided quick efficient healthcare for her. To make amazing service topped off, Dr Neno called me herself throughout the day to update me and give me peace of mind. I won’t recommend anyone else! You guys are THE BEST!

This animal hospital has been treating all the pets I've ever had in my life and even though I no longer live close to this office; I still bring all my pets to them! They are a wonderful clinic and they are extremely professional, but in a very laid back down to earth kinda way. Dr. Sue is the absolute best!

There are not enough good things to say about Dr. Neno. I have been taking my beloved lab to her for the last 15 years and she has been nothing but caring and compassionate. I drive almost an hour to get to her because I cannot imagine another vet taking care of my pets with the same love and compassion she does. She is truly the best.
