How to Save Money at Camp Road Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Amazing time taking my recently adopted kitty to his first vet visit! He is happily resting after getting a booster shot and his dirty ears cleaned at the office today😺. I know my kitty was in good hands with Dr. Hite. She was kind and answered all of my questions. Rick was great while cashing me out, and explained what was done today and my Vaccination Certificate. Everything was great!!

Dr. and the staff are very good. Hard working and caring. For some reason, like a lot of vets, they have been busier than usual. We have a rescue that has had "issues" since we got him. They do everything they possibly can and spend as much time as we need

Cannot recommend. We have taken our animals here for the last couple of years and service was decent. In recent times service has been terrible. We refused medications that we already had and they still charged us for them. you are correct Rick and office staff , you charged my mom for laser treatments not received . You did return the money for unnecessary medications , just before you fired her for advocating for herself and our dog . Everyone has a right to refuse medications . This is our dogs face today . Untreated . No. He did NOT need an antibiotic . He needed a surgery consult . You are rude to call my Mom names and I am glad we left that toxic situation, too. In response to your further false narratives about my family. Do not recommend. ***according to your records we missed 2 appointments in the month of January due to a new job and we were late once, we paid for all 3 . In ELEVEN years. Blatantly false to claim we are chronically late or that we miss appointments routinely ***

I’ve taken all my pets to this location for over 20 years and have always been very happy with them. Whenever anyone on the Hamburg or other Southtowns FB pages would ask for a vet recommendation I always recommend the Camp Road Small Animal Clinic. Now it looks like I’ll be the one asking for a new vet recommendation. Last night around 10 pm my dog started crying out in pain. He’d go an hour or 2 seemly fine but then would start yelping in pain again. It was a very long sleepless stressful night and I was worried sick about my pup. I called the clinic at 7am and left a message letting them know what was going on and asking them to call me back when they opened at 8am. Micky finally calmed down and we both fell asleep until he woke us both up at 10 am yelping and crying again. I called the vet again and explained what was going on. The lady who answered was very nice at first but then she put me on hold and when she came back she was very nasty and told me that they would not see my dog, when I asked why she said that this had been going on since Friday and I should take him to the ER vet. I told her that his pain only started last night but she didn’t believe me. She thought that the message I left 3 hours prior (Monday morning)was actually left on Saturday morning. I was balling my eyes out worried sick and she was cold and nasty and just kept saying that they will not see Micky. Heartless!! In response to the owners response- Before calling you I had thought that most likely you would not see Mickey for the reasons that you stated, because I had been going to elsewhere for his vaccines. When she asked me when was the last time you guys saw Micky I had told her it had been years, so if she would’ve told me that you would not see him now because you hadn’t seen him in so long, I would have accepted and understood that. But that is not what she said to me. She told me that they would not see Mickey because this pain had been going on since Friday. She was nasty and condescending and if she told you that she told me something different then she’s a liar too. I know that you are a great doctor but I will never refer anyone else to your office again because of the people you have working for you.

Would not recommend going here. The people are very impersonable and barely talked to me which rubbed me the wrong way. You think for a new patient that they would talk to you and welcome you to get you to stay, no just a money grab. We had my pup at the moment less than 2 weeks, brought him in, and the doctor hite said “I’m not even sure how you drove with him here, he smells.” We literally just got him. I will not be back…..very unprofessional setting. The one vet tech didn’t even know which meds were my pups and which were the other. They almost gave me the wrong one….
