How to Save Money at Mission Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Today was our first time visiting Mission. Our dog Kirra had an ear infection that had been on and off for the past couple of weeks and got a lot worse one evening. Our regular vet explained that it would be two weeks before she could be seen, which was unacceptable. We took our doggo in for the "Urgent Care" and wow, was I impressed. I spent 5 minutes in the lobby and a total of 35 minutes in the exam room. Was given meds and on our way in less than 45 minutes for $140. Again, this was with one day's notice. On top of all of that, you can check out and pay in your exam room. Wow. Huge props to this place, the staff, and their process. We will definitely be back.

Speedy care and understanding staff when I came 10 minutes late. They were gentle and intuitive with my small beast and respected her dignity. They were also all very perky and attentive to me which is appreciated. Lady is now vaccinated.

This was the best experience I’ve ever had in 28 years of animal care. I returned to NM to establish vet care for my geriatric cat. We’ve been traversing the US for the last three years and now she’ll get continuity of care. Originally I went to another clinic that a friend picked out before I arrived to establish a baseline. My cat has hyperthyroidism and CKD. At the first clinic she was given a steroid shot and I was told she might need one every 4-6 weeks. A month later, I knew she had something wrong with her ears. She’s prone to ear infections, so I was able to get in (at the first vet) and I was told older cats get crusty ears and it was time for another steroid shot. Her ears continued to bother her and I couldn’t find any place I could get into quickly. The first vet office recommended Mission Veterinary Clinic because they have Urgent Care Hours from Wednesday to Friday. I called and talked to Jade who was friendly, helpful, professional and gave me a time slot I could come in. As I drove to the clinic I got great vibes from the neighborhood. It’s in a beautiful location down the street from a park. I pulled in and found a parking spot out front. I walked in to a serene office with super friendly staff. It’s not often you get great vet care and friendly staff. At Mission Veterinary you get the whole package. I was escorted into an exam room and was immediately impressed that Cassie, the vet tech, who sprayed Feliway to soothe my cat and had a soft blanket on the exam table with the scale out. Then when Dr Brahm walked in, she put me at ease. She’s caring, compassionate and swabbed both ears. In a few minutes she told me my cat has a bacterial infection and prescribed ear drops. I told her I wanted her to be my vet and asked if it would be difficult to get appointments with her. She told me if she wasn’t available I could see Dr Eyrich, the owner. Imagine my surprise to discover this was Mindy’s clinic. She was my first house rabbit vet back in 1999! I had no idea she was still in the area. I left in 2009, and thought she moved too! I L💜VE the synchronicity of the universe. No wonder I was loving the vibes of this clinic. Dr. Eyrich sent me a sympathy message more than 20 years ago that I still find comfort in and share with pet and human loss today. The place is clean, serene, nicely decorated and comfortable. A super nice touch was the ability to check out and take care of everything in the exam room. I could tell a lot of care went into the planning of this clinic. I won’t take my kitty anywhere else. What a super place and it’s conveniently located. The price was so reasonable, especially considering it was Urgent Care. They even offer a military discount. Kudos all around for the location, staff, medical expertise, set up, professionalism, and pricing. I’m tickled I can leave my kitty in such great hands. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My regular vet was closed and recommended Mission Vet. I ended up having to put down my pet due to old age. Every single person at Mission was so kind and caring during this process. The didn’t charge me for the actual visit just to have my pet euthanized and cremated. I would 100% recommend them to anybody
