How to Save Money at Dumont Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

AMAZING! I’ve seen so many vets and Dr. Diggle is the best! I was not rushed at all. He has such a good bedside manner, so caring, thorough, gentle, kind staff, more than fair pricing, they even stay way after hours, continuing to try to get all patients in that ask to come in that day. There was really no more room for me to come in on such short notice but the doctor stayed late so my senior cat could be seen. I’m grateful for this facility! Im new to the area and it’s so hard to find a good vet. This will be my primary from now on.

At Dumont animal hospital the vets, vet techs and the office staff work incredibly hard to provide the best top quality care. There may be a wait but they are definitely worth having in your pets care corner. My 14 year old pit bull venus came her whole life and now Dr. Diggle is my male frenchie Enzo’s doctor. Enzo is a 5 year old male who unfortunately was diagnosed with cysteine stones. Enzo Was considered a serious case he spent about 20 days after his surgery at Dumont animal hospital. Dr. Diggle called me everyday to update me on my little buddy. we are so far 1 month post op and my little buddy is doing great. Dr. Diggle is such a compassionate doctor he explained to me every option I had with Enzo and was always honest about Enzo’s case. I am thankful to have been going and will continue to bring all my animals to Dumont animal hospital. Enzo will require for me to be on top of his care moving forward but I know we are in great hands with Dumont animal hospital in our corner.

They are horrible people! We called to get a quote to euthanize our bunny that has been sick for a while. They gave us one price over the phone and doubled the price once we were there in person and our dear bunny was gone . Be weary!

My rabbit wasn’t feeling well and Dumont Animal Hospital got us an appointment the very next morning. They gave my bunny the best care! They were so gentle and caring with him. Dr. Diggle was incredible and I highly recommend him to take care of you pet. The name of the nurse seems to slip my mind unfortunately but, she was also absolutely amazing! My rabbit normally doesn’t like to be held but, he nuzzled right in her arms so comfortably. She even taught us how to hold him comfortably. My boyfriend and I experienced amazing care, compassion, knowledge, and kindness from Dumont Animal Hospital and their staff. Thank you so so much to the Doctor, Nurse, and staff at this Animal Hospital for what you do and for doing it so well. Highly recommend this Animal Hospital!

Today I took my puppy in for a check up and Dr Robben and staff were great. They took their time and addressed all my concerns and very thoroughly checked Zae all around. My visit was very positive and Zae can't wait for his follow up. Thanks Dumont Animal Hospital Crew
