How to Save Money at PetPT

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough good things about this vet practice. My dog fell down the stairs and hurt herself. I have a hard time finding a vet that I feel like I can trust with my dog. We saw Dr. Howe Smith for physical therapy, and he is one of the best doctors we've ever seen. He was able to pinpoint the problem area and make excellent and affordable recommendations. Not only that, but he was able to put everything he was saying into easy terms for us to understand. He really takes his time with each appointment and never makes you feel rushed. Now, flash forward only a couple of months and my dog is almost fully back to normal. She has grown even more muscle mass in both of her legs than she ever had from the start! Dr. Howe Smith's excellent advice and honesty with us, as well as his patience with our dog every visit has been life changing for our family. Also, just a side note... If you are on the fence about the underwater treadmill therapy, JUST DO IT! It has changed my dog's life for the better. It saved her mobility, and we are even doing it monthly for maintenance forever now because it has helped her so much. They make it as stress-free as possible and it seems very rare that a dog won't do it. It's awesome!

I truly wish I could give them a 10/5 star rating. After rescuing my 2 English bulldogs 10 yrs ago I learned my one needed surgery for her leg. When I moved back home to NJ A friend referred me to Pet PT to get a second opinion. BEST DECISION I ever made. After utilizing their water treadmill sessions my little London was zooming around as if she was never injured. She lived a long happy life of 11 1/2 yrs old and I owe SO much of that to the incredible care Pet Pt provided for her. Her partner in crime Pippa is about to be 12 and the continued love and care every single dr and tech provides is nothing short of amazing. We just had pippas 1st annual visit since losing her best friend and the amount of compassion we were greeted with was unmatched. Forever grateful I made the decision to make this location my full time vet. Could not recommend them enough!

The Dr has very very limited hours, that I try my best to make work for the sake of his care. I’ve even been rescheduled a time or 2 with short notice. On my last visit, I called and said I would be late due to commute traffic and asked if it’s worth coming, they said yes fine bc doctor was running late too. I get there 4 minutes past the approved eta I gave them, and proceed to call the office 4-5x with no answer since the door was locked. After waiting 6 minutes frantically trying to gain entry when an employee walks past me the first time, the same employee then opens the door with an attitude just to quickly shut it and tell me I’m late, therefore my dog cannot be seen. She tried to rush me off but I questioned her with why they still told me to come, and why they didn’t answer the locked door for 6 whole minutes and if that was included in the time being counted against me, and I was written off again with a bad attitude and little explanation except for my dog can’t be seen. We called afterward for her to tell us she “doesn’t know what happened but not her decision”. This practice gets almost 200$ weekly from me, $800 monthly with treatments I planned on continuing, and they couldn’t give me an explanation why my dog could not receive the 40 minutes of treatment he’s owed even if it was supposed to be a longer appointment ! I feel as though the staff was trying to “teach me a lesson” on being late, as they knew I wouldn’t be seen. It is so hard to transport a dog with seizures and they wouldn’t even give us the 40 minutes left of his appointment reserved for him! I don’t ask for extra time, just the time left he was owed. Very disappointing. Won’t be back and subject my dog to be turned away again, since they changed their mind. This is unfortunate as I felt the Dr did care for my dog, but with this incident it’s hard to believe they have his best interest in mind anymore.

i have nothing but amazing things to say about pet PT! especially Dr Taylor and the vet techs. they are always amazing and treat my dog like their own every time he steps foot in there. He recently had surgery and they made me confident i was leaving him in great hands. I will never go anywhere else!!
