How to Save Money at Raintree Animal Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have an 8 year old English Bulldog who has been with me almost all day every day since he was 8 weeks. I have recently begun traveling frequently for work and have had to board him while I'm away. I hate having to leave him but know he's well cared for at Raintree. My dog can be a bit extra, but the staff is wonderful and patient with him. Their prices are affordable and it's comforting knowing he is already at the hospital if something were to happen. I also use them for veterinary services and have only had positive experiences with the staff at Raintree.

Trustworthy and professional. The staff is very knowledgeable and experienced. They explain every option and never push to sell you items, services or treatments of any kind. Our family will continue services here.

Dr. Placke and Dr. Chambers are wonderful. My furry babies have been seeing Dr Placke or Dr Chambers for years now and I am confident they are under the best care in Lee's Summit. they always explain options and the pros/cons of each. They are always upfront with cost estimates. Appointments are nearly always on schedule and if there is a delay the staff are great about communicating. I have also boarded at Raintree on a few occasions and my furry babies always come home happy and healthy!

Absolutely love this place and all the people here. Dr Placke has been our vet for over 10 years and even though we don’t live locally anymore, we bring our furbabies here to get their checkups, vaccinations and medications. They are always kind, always able to get us in for an appointment and have always been very caring towards our beloved furbabies. About 1.5 years ago when we were in town visiting family, our 9 yr old Labrador Percy was attacked and mauled by a vicious Pitt Bull and needed to have surgery and round the clock care for 2 weeks following. This was the only place we’d even consider taking him and trusting with his care. They did an amazing job of taking care of him during that time while he began to heal and recover. He never was quite the same after the attack and we weren’t quite sure how much longer we’d have him with us. As a result of the attack he suffered severe trauma and developed severe anxiety. Almost exactly a year later, our beloved Percy passed away. We took him here and they cremated him for us. They also took prints of his nose and paws at our request. They were very caring and sympathetic for our loss. When it was time for our male Miniature Schnauzer to be neutered, we brought him here when we were in town during December for the holidays. And we brought our female Border Pointer here to get spayed when we were in town visiting family this Spring. We trust them completely with any and all vet care. We would highly recommend this place for all your animal needs.

I’ve been coming to this vet for almost 5 years for my dog Vice. My mom got a new puppy in August and I suggested that she start coming here with her pet. Each time she has came for a visit they forget to send her home with what the dr talked to her about. I offer to go pick it up for her because I live in raintree. Both times there’s been a bigger girl with curly hair and glasses “helping” me and she is RUDE and dismissive every time. I never have this problem with any other worker. I’m not sure what her problem is with me if it’s racially motivated because she’s always looking at me with disgust but it makes me very uncomfortable.
