How to Save on Veterinary Costs at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Seen quickly because I got there just after opening. Staff was super friendly. I thought my little girl was having an Addison’s crisis. The vet told me I had done everything right in treating her and thought it may have been her back instead as she was was flinching with palpitation. She has just had labs two weeks prior and didn’t feel she needed more labs done. Decided on some IV fluids. She was already feeling better after the medications I had given her. I appreciate them being fiscally aware and working with me on Maggie to find the right treatment without doing more than she needed. Much appreciated

I was first when they opened at 6 PM got right in all the staff were very special and caring. The vet did a great job of 1. Keeping me calm 2. Caring for Lucy in a caring way. Was great at giving me information that I could understand. Well worth the cost of care and kindness from the entire staff. Look on Lucy’s face when Dr. took her temperature lol

In the early hours of 8/11/2025, my dog, Woodhouse, woke me up whimpering. His eye was noticeably swollen, and he was clearly in pain. I contacted our online veterinarian, who immediately advised that this was an urgent situation requiring emergency care. Normally, I would have taken him to the emergency ER I trust on the Kansas side, but since I’ve recently relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, I decided to try BluePearl Lee’s Summit due to proximity. Unfortunately, that decision turned out to be a serious mistake. From the moment I walked in, the experience felt unwelcoming. The receptionist was visibly grumpy and acted as though my presence was an inconvenience—despite the fact that I was the only client in the lobby. In an emergency care setting, where clients are often under stress and pets are in pain, professionalism and compassion should be the bare minimum. The vet tech who came to get Woodhouse handled my 8-pound Chihuahua roughly, showing little regard for his comfort or stress level. Small dogs, especially when injured, require gentle handling and reassurance—neither of which were provided. When the veterinarian finally came in, she appeared disengaged and rushed. The exam was minimal at best, with little explanation of what she was looking for or what she found. After performing the recommended tests (which I approved), the results were not discussed in any meaningful detail. Most shockingly, the vet did not administer the first dose of medication herself. Instead, she had the tech hand me a box of ointment—literally tossed at me—and sent me on my way without showing me how to apply it or confirming the first treatment was started. The financial side was equally concerning. While the base visit and test charges were within the expected range for emergency veterinary care, I was floored to discover a charge of $68.75 for a standard plastic e-collar—an item that can be purchased retail for as little as $2.00 and rarely exceeds $10 even at other clinics. Such an extreme markup on a basic supply item feels exploitative, particularly when clients are in a position where refusal could delay care for their pet. Pet owners go to emergency veterinary facilities because they trust that the staff will act quickly, competently, and compassionately. At this location, my experience was the opposite—rushed, inattentive, and with an attitude that suggested we were an inconvenience rather than patients in need. If you value compassionate care, gentle handling, and clear communication about your pet’s treatment and costs, I strongly recommend seeking care elsewhere. This visit left me questioning not just the professionalism of this location, but their priorities when it comes to both patient welfare and ethical billing.

Haven’t used Emergency Vet in ages. So sticker shock at the total. Didn’t receive and invoice just discharge notes with no totals. But I reviewed the proposed charges broken down prior to proceeding. Would have been nice to receive a copy for her vet records we keep on file at home. Located the receipt. So sorry! Treated her wonderfully while we were there. Kept us updated through out the visit. Answered all of my questions. My husband was wishing they could have kept her and done the jaw surgery so she could be done with traumatic experiences and start healing. Poor cat hurts to lap anything up so she will need sub q fluids at our vet on Monday as well as jaw surgery.

My dog ate a plum seed, internet research suggested to contact a vet or animal poison control immediately, I did. I took my dog into BluePearl and they got her in right away. Shortly thereafter, the vet assistant returned to the lobby with my dog, explaining she was healthy and there was nothing to worry about. They could have kept her back there, pumped her stomach, given her whatever meds and services they wanted to charge me for, I would've paid the bill, left, and been none the wiser. Suprised by the quick turn around, I went to the counter to check out and pay, and was pleasantly surprised when I was told there was no charge. I was expecting to pay something, however they didn't charge me a dime. I feel like writing a review is the least I can do after experiencing the honesty, kindness, compassion, and great service BluePearl provided to my dog and myself. Thank you everyone at BluePearl, I'm grateful for you and the service you provide.
