How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Be wary of signing up for their wellness program. The contract (which auto-renews unless you opt out) makes you pay for either the full retail value of the services or the remaining associated monthly payments on your plan (whichever is less). I was a customer for six years. My dog was typically seen in July and December. My plan auto renewed in June. Between monthly payments and the cancellation cost, I paid $743 for one comprehensive wellness checkup this year. I wasn’t overly impressed by their services either so I will be finding another vet.

I love Banfield. We just got a new puppy after we lost our previous dog. They were very kind and helped my 7 year old understand that every dog is different and special in their own way. It was ok to miss our old dog and ok to be happy and excited about the new puppy all at the same time. They were short handed but they made sure we got all the time we needed. They didn't make us wait past our appointment time and I never felt rushed because they were in a hurry to stay on schedule with the staff shortage.

This review is in regard to one of the vet techs that I had a bad experience with. I will say that the veterinarian and front desk worker were very professional and knowledgeable. The vet tech with long dark brown hair and a nose piercing was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I cannot speak to her ability to work with animals, since they did not allow me to back with my cat (which I understand). With an attitude such as hers, she should not be working with the public. After bringing my cat in for a vaccine (which was confirmed when I scheduled the appointment that my cat was overdue), she first told me my cat was up to date, when I told the tech that that’s not correct, she then said my cat was not allowed to have that vaccine, but couldn’t tell me why. The front desk worker tried to explain to the tech that my cat was allowed to have the vaccine and needed it, but this tech did not even want to hear an explanation. She then said my cat wouldn’t be able to get the vaccine today, which was the whole reason I brought her. I explained my situation and then she took my cat in the back and just said “we’ll see.” Of course the vet had no problem giving the shot, and also refilled my cat’s prescription. I told the vet that I’m taking my cat for boarding next month, and the tech chimed in that a boarding place wouldn’t be able to give my cat the medication (which isn’t true— I also didn’t even mention the name of the boarding place?) This employee’s negativity combined with her incompetence nearly kept my cat from getting the vaccine she needed. I will not be returning to this location for the sole reason that I do not want to entrust this employee my cat’s care ever again.

I needed vaccines for my dog for a last minute boarding reservation, and sought out Banfield due to their accessibility, affordability, and convenience. I was able to make an appointment within just a few days time, with a convenient drop off for my sweet vaccine-reactive girl. They treated her like a queen and loved on her all day long while they monitored her for any reactions. When we picked her up she was happy and I got a full report from her tech and the doctor over the phone so I didn’t have to linger in the lobby. Honestly one of the easiest and most pleasant veterinary experiences I’ve had in a long time. Thanks guys!!
