How to Save Money at Mission Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Having pets all my life I am grateful to have found Mission Animal Hospital. Every single staff member has been outstanding and they have made me very comfortable through regular and some incredibly tough appointments letting my pets pass on. They are the best in town and I’ll continue to drive a distance to seek care there. Thank you for running a high quality organization and for seeking to employ only the kindest and most compassionate staff. I’m very grateful.

Our 13 year old cat, suddenly stopped eating & drinking on a Saturday. Located Mission Animal Hospital hours for Sunday & that they start triage of animals 30 minutes prior to opening. We arrived at 7:30 & there were about 10 people waiting. The line moved swiftly as information was collected from each pet parent. After hearing of George's condition, a vet tech took him back to immediately be evaluated about 7:45, even before I completed any paperwork. He was returned promptly with kind words that while ill, he wasn't in any emergency needs. They told us that we would be seen again in about 20 minutes. We were brought into a private room while a tech reviewed our possible costs. When we approved some procedures, they took George to complete. After about an hour, the Veterinarian came to speak with us, giving her opinions on the possible cause(s) to his illness, and further recommendations. Costs for options were reviewed with us and a treatment plan agreed upon. George is recovering nicely, 4 days later, after a few days of medication. Mission called on Wednesday to follow up with some lab results & to see how he was recovering. Our total bill was in the realm of $300-$350 after discounts. Thanks to Mission & staff for working on the weekends to ensure quality care to fur babies in the twin cities!

They are very caring and compassionate here. Merf had late stage kidney failure with anemia sneak up on him. The doctor was very honest with us which hurt, but he probably wouldn’t have made it anyhow. He wasn’t eating or drinking. Tho I only knew him six weeks, he was part of my family from day one. I highly recommend them to anyone.

For me and my Fur-baby Mission Animal Hospital was a blessing from the emergency vet referral.🙏🏻 We had visited that night that my Coco Channel, continued to be sick for the second day in a row.🥺From the time they opened the door, I was very surprised on how organized and friendly the staff is.🫰🏼🥹I was so grateful that people are so supportive and passionate with helping in any shape or form to get your pet checked-in.🥲It is a walk-in hospital, first come first serve and depending on the emergency the vet makes the decision to assist. Especially on a Saturday, and it was busy. I cannot Thank you’ll enough for the follow up call they make after a week, to check-in.🥲👍🏼 Just Amazing Lifesavers working there. Bless your hearts with health and happiness…🙏🏻🥰🙏🏻Many Thanks…🙏🏻From Coco Channel and Fur-Mom…🎀💕🐕💕🎀

Some of the kindest, most compassionate people I’ve ever come across - the ENTIRE staff. Clear and frequent communication. They made me feel at ease and welcome. If it wasn’t for their willingness to work with me on a payment plan for Noodle, I’m certain I’d have lost my boy. Thank God they exist. Not everyone is flush with money and a disposable income to afford a typical vet or urgent care. The waiting room has an energy of joy and hope for a good reason.
