How to Save Money at Engmann Veterinary Behavior Consulting, PLLC
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Making an appointment with Dr. Engmann was one of the best decisions I have made for my dog. After years of working with trainers, veterinarians, behavioralists, and more, I finally found the support of Dr. Engmann and will be forever grateful. My dog is extremely fearful of people and other animals, yet he felt so safe with Dr. Engmann that he fell asleep during our first appointment. Since that day she has, and continues, to help to improve his quality of life more than tenfold. Not long after our initial consult, we found a stray pup desperately in need of a home. With Dr. Engmann's help and support, we were able to help my dog to safely build trust with his new sister at his own pace, and the two of them are now the best of friends with the most loving relationship. I firmly believe that without Dr. Engmann's support, this seemingly unfeasable achievement would not have been possible. Dr. Engmann has helped us to understand the relationship between my dog's health, environment, experiences and his behavior. Her evidence-based approach is rooted in empathy, and we have felt supported like we never have before. Her insight into medication, behavioral training, and more has truly been a lifesaver. As a sitter and caregiver for fearful and reactive dogs, I recommend Dr. Engmann to all of my clients, and she has met every single one with care, compassion, and unmatched support. From my babies and me, thank you SO much Dr. Engmann!!

Dr. Engmann was a lifesaver when we adopted a rescue dog with significant fear-based aggression issues. Thanks to the compassion and knowledge we received, our "monster's" behavior is well-managed and our dog is a loving part of our family.

Dr. Engmann is great. She has been so helpful in getting my dog’s anxiety under control using a combination of training and medications. Willow’s quality of life is greatly improved - and so is mine! I highly recommend Dr. Engmann.

Dr. Engmann has been wonderful to work with. She took her time with us and helped us tremendously with our rescue dogs' behavior and anxiety problems. She has given us helpful tools like recognizing our dogs' body language, how to prevent biting and how to help our dog learn to self calm. We highly recommend Dr. Engmann.

Two and a half years ago, we began a tough journey with our mini-aussie Penny. She was absolutely panicked when left home alone and nothing we were trying was working. After a recommendation from our beloved dog-trainer, we sought out a consultation with Dr. Engmann. Her intake process and consultation was thorough and so kind - she talked about Penny as a whole dog, not just her separation anxiety. She gave us homework that started from the source (her anxiety) and not just a band-aid to leave her alone. She was always so kind and reassuring, knowing I felt so guilty about our situation. Dr. Engmann graciously read my weekly emails and provided support, encouragement, and more ideas on how to really help with Penny. We met a few more times virtually over the course of two years, for updates and consultations. After keeping in touch and continuing our work, we have officially reached a point in our journey where we can comfortably leave Penny alone without much worry. As a bonus, she helped us teach Penny to be more confident and showed us how to work with Penny on her comfort level. We have gone from a puppy that cried when we got in the shower (she couldn't see us) to a grown-up girl who calmly watches us leave the house. We are so grateful for her kind and supportive help. We would recommend Dr. Engmann to anyone having trouble with their dog's behaviors.
