How to Save Money at Prelesnik Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I chose Prelesnik Animal Hospital for the convenient location and great reviews from friends. I was not disappointed. I was able to get an appointment within 3 days of my initial phone call, and received prompt service when we arrived. My puppy was loved on, received great attention, and we were not hurried through the appointment. I recommend giving Prelesnik Animal Hospital a try.

We have seen every Vet in their office in our dogs first year. She has had some issues so we have been in vets office more than I had planned on. But all the vets explain things and All the staff is welcoming and great with our dog.

The past 2 months I've had to unfortunately put down 2 cats. This office has helped us through some of the toughest times when it came to our loved ones. Both cats had health issues that they were able to address which in return helped our beloved cats live for years longer than expected by our other vet. The level of care that they show and the empathy cannot be thought. They genuinely care. My heart hurts from the loss of my loved ones but I will appreciate the whole team here the rest of my life. Thank you for everything you've done for pebbles and cyclone.

I am saddened to have to leave this review, but I think it is necessary so that others are aware who they are bringing their pets to. The vet techs have always been amazing and very sweet with our animals. But my family and I have had a few too many bad instances with Sarah. To start, she looked at one of our new cats for a general check up. We left with her reassuring us that he was in perfect health. A few months go by and said kitty wasn’t eating anymore. We bring him to a new vet, who discovers that he has a severe case of periodontal disease (something that Sarah should have easily been able to see), which resulted in him having to get 9 teeth pulled. Additionally, they left a note on my brother’s dogs chart stating that he is an aggressive dog (due to Sarah being afraid of him because he is a pit bull), which is about as far from the truth as they could get. She was refusing to look at him, despite my brother’s fiancé reassuring her that he is not aggressive. He is the sweetest boy I’ve ever met who literally has no mean bone to his body. He wouldn’t hurt a butterfly. Keep in mind that these are only a couple of the bad instances we’ve had at Prelesnik Animal Hospital. If you want someone who takes good care of your animals (especially if you have a pit bull) and actually checks to make sure they are in good health, I would highly advise you bring them elsewhere. In response to your comment: the cat didn’t just recently develop the disease. We brought him to another vet about a month after seeing you. So, unless he can develop an an extreme case of periodontal disease (one of the most extreme cases the other vet had ever seen) in the matter of a month, I would say it was something that was definitely missed and should have been caught by you guys. We just now left the comment because if the other instance with my brother’s dog

I guess the only positive is that they had availability, I understand why now. Other than the callus treatment of my sensitive dog, the lackluster protocol, and the pretty obvious absence of concern from any one of the employees, my dog was technically seen but only in the literal sense. The first time my dog went in, he was upset about the rectal thermometer quite a bit that I feel is reasonable, but from there the vet entirely gave up and didn't even look at him the second time. We later read it was because of a predisposition as referenced in the notes (most was redacted due to personal info). At no point was there any sort of compassion. When we were basically just trying to get the prescription food, every time something has been an issue. So after a few months and around $800 later, we have no clear resolution if anything is fixed and after finding out the comments they made in their internal notes we are done, we will never be going back. We have switched to Clarke Animal Hospital from here and aren't regretting it.
