How to Save Money at Best Pets Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

While camping nearby with my pets, my youngest developed an infection due to a recent injury. With little notice, the staff were able to get my dog scheduled and treated. She responded, positively, within a few days. Much thanks for the care and professionalism shown by this provider. As I am looking to relocate to the area, I will definitely keep Best Pets Animal Clinic in mind for the future care of my pets.

I don’t usually write reviews—especially negative ones—as it’s not in my nature to complain about service. However, I feel compelled to share what happened to me this morning at this vet office. I called yesterday to schedule a simple anal gland expression for my dog. When I arrived today, I was surprised to see the vet performing a full check-up, which I did not request or believe was necessary. Upon receiving the bill, I was shocked to see a $97 charge. This included eye drops that I don’t believe were needed. I had given my dog Trazodone prior to the visit, which often causes watery eyes—a fact I mentioned to the vet. What concerned me most was the charge for an "illness exam," even though my dog was not sick. When I called the front desk, I was told I should have been scheduled for a vet tech visit instead, and the staff member apologized for the scheduling error. She said the office manager would follow up with me. When the office manager called, rather than acknowledging the mistake, she justified the charge by saying it had been since November since my dog’s last visit and that her eyes appeared red. I reiterated multiple times that my dog was not ill, and that as a customer, I should not be charged for a service I didn’t need or request. Eventually, after some back-and-forth, she agreed to credit my account. Unfortunately, the overall experience left a bad impression. What could have been a simple acknowledgment of a mistake turned into excuses and blame-shifting to the front staff. I won’t be returning. The customer service was disappointing, and the situation could have been handled much more professionally

Phenomenal staff! Came here from another vet who’s priced double. They took the best care of my cane boy when he wasn’t feeling good. 100% worth driving from Lexington and will be making this clinic my routine care for my fur babies. Much love from cane and Amanda

We do not have a local vet that treats feathered babies. I was very fortunate to find Best Pets in Georgetown about an hour from where I live. Dr. Lacki was wonderful with Gilley and very knowledgeable. They have called to check on him a couple times since his visit. I highly recommend Best Pets Animal Clinic and am very grateful for their help.
