How to Save Money at The Integrative Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

You don’t find a vet or staff like this one very often. Dr. Nichols and the whole staff are amazing beyond words. Their first concern is your pets well being. They truly love animals, and want to see them at their best. Dr. Nichols and his staff has treated our pets as his own. He is honest, kind, compassionate, and truly loves what he does. I know it takes a lot of trust to hand over your family to a new vet, but believe me this is the office for you. Dr. Nichols treats our three cats, and two dogs. And he will always have our business as long as we are here.

Today was my first visit at this clinic with Dr. Nichols and it was exceptional. I truly felt like my pup and I were heard and taken care of. I have a ton of respect for all involved in veterinary clinics, but this type of visit was what I had always hoped for. It means a lot to have a doctor who kindly listens to all of your concerns with patience and compassion. I have felt so helpless trying to understand and care for my old pup who has needed me more than ever at this part in his life. Although he is dealing with multiple issues, I finally am comfortable with the treatment Dr. Nichols has started for him. We drove an hour to see him and plan on switching our 2 year old pup into his care as well. It's worth it. Katelyn, our vet tech, was phenomenal as well. All around a great practice and will recommend to our family and friends.

I highly recommend Dr. Nichols for integrative veterinary medicine. He is an exceptionally intuitive practitioner and a steward of compassionate relationships for his clients and their beloved pets. He has been my vet since 2010. Now at his new integrative clinic, I am impressed with his thoughtful approach creating a unique atmosphere focused on my dog and me. For my senior dog, the laser treatments and acupuncture made a world of difference for his comfort to playfully run again. For my Husky diagnosed with liver cancer, Dr. Nichols’ intuitive approach supported enhanced quality of life for my Husky and me following his diagnosis. The combination of Ozone therapy, Vitamin C infusions, nutritional counseling, and his kindness for both of us made the difference. During his treatments, my Husky also became fond of one of the techs – and she gave us a personal gift cookbook for baking natural ingredient doggie treats. Truly endearing. I am especially grateful to Dr. Nichols and the tech for their genuine love and expertise.

I paid 3-4 times the cost of a normal spay, just for extra special care. I knew that completely, and meant to do so. I liked and trusted this place. I Had questions and expressed concerns prior to a major surgery, as I’d think anyone would, which apparently is NOT ok, cos I never got a call or text checking up on my pup, no more contact ever since. I had also paid for hip x-rays, for which there was a concern from myself and the doctor…I never got a call with the results afterwards. Don’t ask questions or He may shun you and your pet ! Very disappointed after that last incident, everything prior seemed to be fine…and I drove from almost an hour away every time, just to go to our long time doctor of even my prior dog. She was not the one treating my pup this time tho. We do miss her.
