How to Save Money at VCA Stoney Creek Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough good things about this Animal Hospital! Specifically Dr. Lempert… an absolute angel! One of the kindest humans I have ever met. She took the BEST care of my kitten, and thoroughly explained our treatment plan and answered all my questions. She had a beautiful demeanor that made me feel at ease. Everyone here is just fabulous, and I highly recommend them for your pet’s care!

I began using this hospital for my dog from her very first appointments. During both of my first two visits for vaccines, I was told that the monthly care plan was retroactive at any time if I chose to continue to use them for future services and when I am ready, they will sign me up and everything I paid in would be applied retroactively. Being a very busy person I took this to heart and thought it was a great idea and service. I needed to get in and out and paid in full after the first two visits to see how my experiences would be. On my 3rd visit, I asked them to enroll in this plan. I was told something new about this plan. I was told it is only retroactive if done within 30 days meaning any of the in full payments that I made would not be applied to my care plan anymore. These are two very different things from when I was told on my first two visits. I was willing to overlook the error or miscommunication but when I politely asked to speak to someone about this they acted immediately like they were defensive and blunt. The receptionist Michelle was very rude and interrupting me as I tried to tell them that their employee told me at both visits, “the care plan is retroactive at any time.” She was blunt and didn’t care. I asked to speak to the manager and Michelle and she refused to empathize or apologize for the error and was also only interrupted me while I tried to explain and ask questions. Any time I spoke, they would cut me off and didn’t care. Why would I choose to enroll in an ongoing monthly plan with you when I have only done business with you 2 times plus if you tell me I can enroll retroactive at any time, I am going to try you out and see how things go. I am glad I did not sign up now after my 3rd visit you treated me terribly. That’s too bad because you lost all of my figure business and I will make sure I tell everyone in my community that they should avoid your hospital. All you needed to do was empathize with me a little, apologize and do something to make this right. Instead you lost a customer and probably many future customers because of this review. There are plenty of veterinarians in Fishers IN. You can certainly find a better place to care for your pets.

The worst place to go. I would never trust these people with my dog and new born pups if my life depended on it.

We love this VCA hospital. Our Maltese has always gone to a VAC, but we are newish to Fishers, so this was just his 2nd visit here. Scooter spent a ruff night coughing (A trachea infection) and they worked him in that day. We were so worried; we have never told Scooter that he is a dog, he thinks he is our grandson. The antibiotic and cough medications are working. They were very thorough and even offered chest x-rays when they heard a heart murmur, and sent his results to a radiologist to double check. They even came out to the car to get and return my dog, due to the virus. Thank you VCA Stoney Creek Animal Hospital.
