How to Save Money at Dyer Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am new to the area and brought my pug in for an ear infection. I have never had such a bad experience. First, they have you wait in your car ,and want to bring your pet in alone. When I asked why no one is allowed in the waiting room, I was told it's because they have problems with clients. That should be a big red flag. Needless to say, I went into the office with my dog.The vet tech treated my baby like she was an object, not showing any kindness or care at all. She man handled my fur baby up to the point of clamping her nose and mouth shut, cutting off her breathing all together so the vet could hear her heartbeat. I was just in shock. She also was so harsh cleaning her ears that she drew blood. At the end of the visit I was asked to sign papers stating that I wold not get loud or curse at staff. Any vet office treating patients well would not need to do this. If I could give 0 stars I would. If you love your pet, do Not take them here!

The care and attention given at Dyer Animal Clinic is remarkable. From our very first appointment with them, we knew they were different than the previous vet we used. Drs. Farrell and Radencic never failed to be anything but kind and helpful during each of our visits, patiently answering our questions and providing recommendations on how best to treat ear infections, allergies, and finally bone cancer. Dr. Radencic, Kayla, and Toni were exceptionally compassionate to my husband and myself when we finally had to say goodbye to our dog.

I waited to write this review hoping I would change my mind or have a better experience. I loved Dyer Animal Clinic. It was the only place I would take my pets for years. The vet that I normally see left the practice and I had to see a new veterinarian. I took one of my pets in because I noticed a loose tooth. While there the newer veterinarian (Radencic) pulled my pets tooth before they were numb. I watched my pet howl and foam while she proceeded to say to him, "If you would have been brought in sooner you wouldn't be in this situation." Literally shaming me because I wasn't aware that my senior cat had gum disease. My pets are healthy, loved, and up to date. This woman was so cold and rude. I will not be back. Hopefully by now she has learned how to properly speak to people and show compassion. My one star is based on my experience with a particular veterinarian. The office staff are kind and the other veterinarian (Farrell) I have not personally seen.

Great care of pets! Professional and answer all questions no matter how small. When I lost my first cat they were very supportive/sympathetic. I knew when I got my next fuzzy friend this was the only clinic I wanted to take him to.

It's nice to go-to a place where they love your pet as much as the owner. First visit was very professional mixed with a hint of personal touch. The techs were all very helpful and polite. Gave me an itemized bill and discussed treatment. The Dr. was very smooth with the shot. No hissing or crying. Staff recognize and practiced COVID protocols at all times. We definitely will be back for regular check ups.
