How to Save Money at Park Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Love this place ! Dr Park and his staff are amazing ! There is an animal hospital walking distance to me , however I will drive across town to see him! When my dogs died in the past they even sent sympathy cards which I appreciated. I trust them with my Sadie! She had heart worms, Lyme disease etc and they referred her and she was helped . I truly appreciate them .

To start: the front desk staff are lovely people and always made our visits a pleasant experience, more than I can say about every other vet I've been to in my . Definitely a strength of this place! They were always so helpful and seemed invested in providing a good standard of care. As for the exam room, big issues. Of course, I'm trying to bear in mind this is primarily a walk-in vet with a high patient volume, but our experience raised some red flags. We brought our cat in for bad diarrhea, for which the doctor requested a stool sample. It was later confirmed that our cat had a parasite and he was given an antiparasitic on the spot. Fast forward 3 weeks, the diarrhea never improved, so we returned to get him checked out. The vet asked about the kitten's diet, which makes sense, but upon us asking if another stool sample was necessary, said he didn't think so, almost seeming confused we asked. We were foolish enough to leave the office with "prescription food" shoved in our face for two consecutive visits. Other concerns we mentioned to the vet in the exam room were consistently met with a dismissive demeanor. A friend who had gone to Dr. Park with their dog in years past reported similar experiences of constantly being rushed out the door, without a doubt influencing the premature passing of their pet due to long-undiagnosed illness. I switched to a different clinic, whose vet was appalled that Park Animal Hospital only requested a single fecal exam. Within a matter of days, the new vet found not one but two species of parasite in my cat's stool. He has since had a full cycle of two rounds of antiparasitic medication and his poops are now absolutely wonderful. The anti-flea solution prescribed by the new veterinarian finished off his persistent flea issue better than the Dawn dish soap trick advocated for by Dr. Park. I wish the care provided reflected the absolutely wonderful experience Park Animal Hospital was at the front desk. It's a huge shame that this vet pushes patients out the door so quickly. Just another clinic mindlessly throwing (or very strongly suggesting, I don't know) Hill's or Royal Canin food at its patients as the go-to cure while completely letting the real issue fly over their head. I really do hope they get their act together soon.

Almost let my dog die because he didn't want to do an X-Ray that WE were paying for!! His laziness and incompetence almost cost my dog his life. If you value your pets health, DO NOT come here! Took my dog to Premiere Veterinary Emergency Hospital on Belmont and he is receiving MUCH better care. Hopefully, they will save him. Update: My dog has cancer, not kennel cough, and now he's going to die. You need to go back to Veterinary school.

Dr. Park was vet to my cats and dogs for many years. Since moving to Naperville in 2007, I changed vets, of course. I wondered if Park Animal Hospital was still in practice and checked online. I read many quite unsatisfactory reviews which made me wonder if it's time for Dr. Park to retire. Perhaps he should give retirement serious consideration.

Flapper God Vlogs

Staff are great but the doctor is rude and angry when I asked him a question. Every time said do not interrupt me. It is not professionally. If I paid money I want to know something. Do not feel that he likes animals at all! My dog was awfully screaming from this exam. Very terrible doctor's attitude toward the dog! I came there for help but left with the felling that paid money for nothing . Do not recommended this place for your lovely pets!
