How to Save Money at Logan Square Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. B tried to help one of my senior cats, Pablo, after being diagnosed with a canceres tumor on his leg. Even with the odds against him, he was more than willing to help me try to give him a little bit more time with us. After everything was going south for him, Dr. B was very compassionate and understanding helping me with the grieving. He truly loves what he does and is great with all his animals.

I’m am so frustrated with this hospital!! I brought my new puppy in for her vaccination and because she had an ear infection. The first appointment went great, and I paid $214. As I was checking out, I knew I needed to schedule her 3-week follow-up. The receptionist told me, “Your next visit will be at no cost,” which I thought was perfect. Yesterday, I called to schedule her 3-week second dose. The person I spoke with said they could see her at 11:15. When I arrived, they said there was no appointment scheduled. I instantly panicked because I live EXTREMELY far, I work a lot, and this was one of my only days off for a week and a half. She also needs her shots for daycare. The doctor agreed to see her, but it wasn’t until after the medication was given that I found out it wasn’t just two doses—they want her to come back every 3 weeks until she’s 5 months old. I have never had to do that with my other puppies. As I was leaving the office, the receptionist said, “Your total is $180.” That’s another $200, and I had been told the second visit would be free. She went to get what I assume was the office manager, who then explained that the office visit was free, not the treatment. At this point, I was upset. This office plays on wording, causes confusion, and is not fully transparent. Because I work in the medical field, I understand that treatment costs are my responsibility, but to build a good rapport with your clients, transparency is important. Instead, I felt completely blindsided at the end of the visit. I paid, but I will never return to this office. The doctor is nice, but this workplace is in serious need of improvement.

These guys saved my cat!! My cat had a terrible accident, she jumped from our balcony and landed on the fence. We were lucky and the animal hospital got her in the operation room immediately. They did a great job treating her and patching her back. She is now in great shape and running around like she used to. I am extremely thankful for their professional treatment, their care, and their fair price (that was mostly covered by the insurance). I'll always be your advocate, thank you!! I'll save you the post-op pictures and share our happy Phoebe from Halloween (a month after the incident!)

The whole staff is meaningful, patient, understanding, and kind, and they have your pets' best interest at heart, and it shows in the work that they do. My fur baby (dog) is always excited to go there, which is hilarious! She will continue to be a patient here!

I recently moved to the area and decided to transfer my Great Dane’s care from a Lakeview clinic to Logan Square Animal Hospital since it was close to home and I’d heard some positive things. Unfortunately, my experience left me disappointed. Before the appointment, I emailed my dog’s records and asked about protocols for large, anxious dogs, my dog is 155 lbs and has historically needed oral sedation for vaccinations to avoid dangerous thrashing or injury. Despite sending multiple follow-ups, I never received a single response. That lack of communication was already concerning, but I kept the appointment when my dog developed signs of an ear infection. Upon arrival, the front desk staff were indifferent at best- unfriendly enough that I genuinely felt like checking in was bothering them. After waiting about 20 minutes with no updates, I was finally seen by Dr. Konstantinov and a vet tech. In that short visit, the doctor dismissed my concerns, commenting that my dog “should be more confident” for his size, and repeatedly pushed for vaccinations despite my prior explanations (which they had ignored) that he needs advance planning. He even suggested restraining my dog with a metal device in the back or that I personally “just hold him down”, neither of which is safe or humane. When I advocated for my dog, he laughed, then warned me that the oral sedative prescribed by my former vet “could kill him.” The only positive part of the visit was a younger staff member, kind, respectful, and exactly what you hope to encounter in an animal care setting. Unfortunately, that was the exception. The clinic itself feels outdated, but the real concern here is the dismissive communication, lack of professionalism, and questionable handling recommendations for anxious large-breed dogs. Ultimately, I cannot recommend Logan Square Animal Hospital if you’re looking for a vet team that genuinely listens and prioritizes animal well-being.
