How to Save Money at Peak Animal Health Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough great things about Dr Odette Suter! Several years ago one of my dogs was in agony with allergies. We had tried everything (so we thought) and the vets we had taken him to had been pumping him full of meds which weren't working. His skin was swollen, red and bleeding from all the scratching he was doing. In desperation I googled holistic vets in our area and that's how I found Odette! I liked her from the moment we met her. She is warm, caring, gentle and just excellent with all our animals. Our 3 dogs ADORE her. She was able to get our dog's allergies under control so he could live a happy life again! She has also helped us with managing a couple of our dogs health conditions (one had off the chart high kidney values and the other very high liver values). Through raw food and supplements, we are keeping their issues under control and the kidney values are now in the normal range. Dr Suter also does regular chiropractic adjustments on a couple of our dogs and also on some of our giant rabbits! It has helped them all tremendously. I highly highly recommend her and I tell everyone how much she has helped us and our animals. :)

I sure am glad I found Dr. Odette Suter. She took care of Charlie's issues what 5 plus years of other vets including holistic vets couldn't do..and no drugs. I've never seen a vet spend hours on a visit. The nice part about it is you spend the whole time with your pet and you learn while you're with Odette. She has great patience and you can DEFINITELY tell she cares. Thank you Odette. You made 2 beings extremely happy. I also highly recommend you get her book...."What Your Vet Never Told You".

Odette is a great holistic vet! She really cares about our 4 legged family members as well as their owners. She has helped our dog lose 8 lbs with a very holistic approach which included food change, exercise, acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments. Her program is very well rounded and one that any owner can follow. She makes you think outside of the box in that meds are used only as a last resort. She doesn't just treat the symptoms, but works with you to find the underlying cause. This approach will hopefully help our pets to live longer, happier, healthier lives. Odette is the real deal! The vet with a heart! I have recommended her to my family and friends.

We were so fortunate to find Dr. Sutter. We had been trying for over a year to help our dog. She was only 2 years old but was acting like a 15 yr old dog. She only wanted to lie around and sleep. Her former Vet offered no help, after a year and repeated costs on tests, they gave us no hope. I found Odette, and after just the first visit there was a huge improvement with our pup. She continued being treated on a 6 month health restart program, and she is now 5 years old and more active then her 2 yr old sister. The learning sessions with the program were so informational on the continued health for both our pets. We are thankful everyday for having found Odette and her treatment program. It literally gave us our dog back to live a full happy life.

Dr Suter is amazing. She's brought my dog back from a nasty bacterial infection and we're continuing to optimize his health as best we can. He's free of symptoms, and back to the happy, energetic, bossy little guy I absolutely love.
