How to Save Money at Ke Ola Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I randomly called this location for an urgent visit for my dog and they were able to take me that day. Unfortunately we loss our dog before the scheduled appointment so I called to let them know we no longer needed to come in. I was emotional during the call and said out loud, “I don’t know what to do now.” I was saying it to myself and the person in the phone thought I was saying it to them lol She was so nice and advised that I could bring him in and they would assist with cremation services. We got there just before closing and I didn’t feel rushed, they graciously offered us to go into a private room to say our final goodbyes. I appreciate their patience and grace. So much aloha in a time we needed it the most. I appreciate them so much

My Pomeranian puppies received an exceptional level of care at Ka Ola Pet Hospital. Scheduling an appointment on the phone was easy the lady who scheduled me was super nice. I arrived to a cozy waiting area, decorated with scenes from Harry Potter and was seen by the doctor at the scheduled time. It was obvious that the whole time I was there, my puppies were really taken care of, as it is obvious on the pictures and the short film. I definitely recommend this veterinarian!

Not a fan of this pet hospital. I did not have any issues before but since they have new people working there now, my experience has been awful. My puppy, which is a golden retriever, was scared of everything!! He's not used to be around people and other dogs so he does bark alot and is a bit hyper. Which is normal since he is still a puppy. I was already having a hard time trying to calm him down but instead of trying to understand the situation, I was getting the annoyed look from the people that works there which is bad especially that they work to serve animals. I was also asked to wait outside with my dog which I think was very rude. My point is, it's a pet hospital. Barking and hyper dogs should not be a problem since it is part of their job to care for them. And it's not like I was not trying to calm him down, I was trying my hardest. I think having a great attitude is a must to work with pets and their owners. Unfortunately, I did not get that with the 2 visit we had within a week span.

If you are looking for a good veterinarian, I highly recommend this place for your pets. They care so much for your pets and treat them as if it was there own pet. The staff are very respectful and friendly.

We got our dog about six months ago and started taking him here for his vaccinations. They have been really helpful and knowledgeable on everything. They care and do a great job explaining what medications my dog needs and why. They also have thought ahead to make sure I don't get pills that are not correct for his size, since he is growing like a weed. They were really accommodating when I had to move around his appointments last minute due to work. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone here on island.
