How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have a pet insurance plan for 2 cats and a dog through banfield. I rarely have to pay anything extra for my animals. The staff is very nice and welcoming and i always get follow up calls from either the vet or other staff after a visit to check in and make sure my fur babies are doing ok.

We had an emergency with our dog and Banfield worked her in very quickly and did everything they could to help her. Unfortunately she did not make it. But they were very supportive and very helpful.

UPDATE: I have given this a lot of thought and feel that I have to change my review. This is long but important. Most of the front staff are very nice, but not all. There is one tech there that is amazing and I wish I had her name. The problem I have is with the vet herself. We have an older dog that has hip issues, she was a stray, then rescue and we wonder if she was hurt during that time. She is on CBD and a pain meds if needed. We went in for dental cleaning and did not give her the CBD due to possible interactions with the anesthesia. We were told the dogs would be ready at 4:30. We were about to leave and we’re told they would not be ready until 5:45 (close at 6:00). We arrived at 5:30 and they called while we were I. The parking lot and said they were ready and had practically jumped up awake after the anesthesia. We walked in and waited and waited because the vet wanted to talk to us. I asked a couple of times and was told they were waking up from the anesthesia, no I was already told they were awake. Finally at 6:15 I asked again and the front desk went to ask, after 10 minutes and she didn’t come back I actually called them, on the phone, from the waiting room to see if everything was ok. I was told they were still waking up. No! She came back out and I told her I wanted my dogs and wanted to leave right now. The vet finally came out. This is what put me over the edge - I asked about her hips and she told me “Yeah, she screamed every time I touched her, she’s a little dramatic.” And “It’s a Learned response.” Holly has NEVER had that issue or response at the vet. I reminded her that she had not been given her meds and she blew it off. We finally left. The more I thought about it, the more upset I got. We have moved all 4 dogs elsewhere and I will never set foot in there again. I do not review lightly, and if you look at my other reviews, you will see I am fair and usually positive. However, I felt this was important to know for all the doggos out there. This was our first visit to this Banfield due to our move. They were responsive, listened to our concerns, and made a plan. They took good care of our doggo!

I was thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and quality of care I received at this location. The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough in addressing all of my concerns regarding my pet. The facility was clean, and they were able to provide a broken down treatment plan addressing all concerns as well as a guideline with options for preventative care in the future. We are going back to begin the process, and I couldn't be more pleased.

I called on a Sunday asking for information on boarding in the Newnan GA area. My son was taken by ambulance after a medical emergency on I 85 an hour from his home. My daughter in law needed somewhere to board their dog so she could be at our son's side (we live in another state.). The receptionist was very helpful and gave me some ideas on who to call. She was very friendly.
