How to Save Money at Total Veterinary Care - Kennesaw

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Absolutely love the staff here! They are super friendly and truly care about you AND your pet. They have done an amazing job helping me understand and determine the best care for my elderly diabetic cat. I have a very tight budget and they have been so respectful of this by letting me do certain treatments at home and always offering cheaper alternatives to a treatment when they are available! I would 100% recommend them to anyone looking for a friendly and affordable vet in the Kennesaw area.

Since we've moved to Georgia, Total Veterinary Care has been awesome to go to. The front desk reception is extremely welcoming, and even though we usually don't get the same specialists whenever we visit, everyone has been super friendly and knowledgeable. Our cat can be a terror at the vet and the people here handle her very well. Not to mention, the visits here don't break the bank. Highly recommended!

This place is wonderful. I took my dog the first time a few days ago, and everyone was super kind and friendly. Then I thought I saw a worm on him less than a week later & they saw him same day - less than 2 hours after I called in concerned. I greatly appreciate this vet & will likely keep my dog at this location. They were very knowledgeable and personable. ☺️

The service is fine, and the staff is pleasant, but the prices are outrageous at this location. We had to come in a slightly emergent situation when out regular vet couldn’t see us for a couple days, and we were worried about one of our dogs transferring their illness to the other. At the end of the day, we got what we needed for the moment, but even in a similar situation I wouldn’t go back. I can get the same quality of care for about 1/3 less the price at my regular vet, or a half dozen others literally in a 5 minute radius. Not worth the money and I recommend looking elsewhere.

The admins and doctors are lovely people, very nice. If any of the doctors happen to change veterinary clinics, I'd be happy to be their patient once more. The issues: I was overcharged $101 with itemization on the invoice and no one caught the error. They did correct it and refund me when I brought it up to them. My cat came back with fleas, twice. Both my cats are indoor cats and neither had fleas prior. My youngest just got spayed. She has a blood work appointment a week before her surgery, came back with fleas. We bathed her and removed the few fleas. After her surgery, she came back with fleas get again. My 2 year old cat has never had fleas during the 2 years we owned him and has also been a patient of this clinic but he only goes once a year for shots. The last time he was there, he didn't return with fleas, nor did we immediately bathe him after the appointment. I think maybe new management or new staff has caused some hiccups in sanitation. Other vets I've taken him to didn't result in fleas all over the house.
