How to Save Money at The Village Vets

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The nicest people from the front desk to the nurses and doctors and I was there so late the custodial staff was there and they were so kind and considerate also. Extremely clean. The nurses and doctors took time and listened and didn't try to "sell" me anything or over treat. Very conservative and thoughtful care. Highly recommend.

What a great facility with wonderful staff! When I got home from work, I found our 12 and half yo lab mix on the floor, his head tilted to the right, unable to walk or stand. I quickly took him to the Village Vets ER and had absolute the best experience. Dr. Calcutt was very knowledgeable and, most of all, he was very compassionate. You can tell he really cares. His diagnosis of vestibular disease was spot on and our sweet boy improved quickly after the ER visit and his treatment. I was quite surprised with how low the bill was, based on my previous experiences. Overall, a great experience and definitely recommend.

My cat is back to her talkative, playful and vivacious self again. Thank you so much she is just night and day from when I brought her in. I went from thinking I was about to loose her to getting her back to 100 percent. I can’t thank you enough for taking such good care of my baby. She means the world to me and you saved her.

A week after adopting a puppy, he came down with kennel cough which turned to pneumonia. He refused to eat, drink, walk, and had a terrible cough. We were panicking! We were referred to Village Vets late at night and brought him in. They decided with his condition to keep him for three nights. We missed him dearly but knew he was in amazing hands! The staff were kind, professional, and most of all understanding of all of my questions regarding his condition. They allowed us to visit the second day to say hello to our little boy which was comforting to each of us. I am so thankful for their 24/7 services and attention to detail and care! He is doing SO much better thanks to Village Vets and their expertise.

I rated a 1 star if i was able to rate a 0 I would have done that. I was at the facility Saturday , 9 / 23 / 23 around 12:00 am. Mind you my dog is a small teacup chihuahua who has TERRIBLE allergies and im assuming she had gotten into something without my knowing. I was sacred since I hadn't had of her allergy medication in my home. I rushed to the only emergency vet that was 24 hours in my neighborhood. Which was The Village Vets. We went in and there was a lady working front desk, I tell her whats going on and how worried i was, again my dog was scratching and whining with bright red and swollen eyes it was a horrid scene. She goes , “ Well there will be an $150 exam fee for the vet to examine her tonight “ and Im completely fine with that, I was willing to pay any amount of money for her to be helped at the moment. Then she goes “ Well theres a 3-4 hour wait time. “ I also understand that and was fine with that. So instead since i was so worried, I ask “ well is there anything you can recommend us ? like a simple over the counter medication or should we rinse the eyes out or what? “ And she goes “ We cant recommend you anything “ all rudely. I asked a simple question and she suddenly got all defensive and rude. At the same time i was talking to the front desk lady another customer had come out back with their little dog. She Immediately turned to them and helped them finish paying off their fee’s without even a warning. I felt that very rude and inconsiderate. With that being said, we left the vet that night without being seen and without any knowledge on how to help my poor baby. This place is terrible and I will never be coming back.
