How to Save Money at Compassion Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Extremely pleased. After using an ER Vet during the night, we brought Bella, our 14 year old doodle, to Compassion. We'd been disappointed with the ER night visit and thrilled to have a vet who seemed to care and listened well. VERY THOROUGH! Dr McMahon, I think? Also, great staff. Thank you! Thank you!

My neighbor had a pet emergency, they got her fur baby in on the same day . Caring pleasant staff, top notch veterinary services. They x rayed, and splinted the leg, and made sure Luna was comfortable.

They were wonderful. I first took our newest puppy to them during an emergency visit. They were the only place in town that would agree to see her that day. I also have a 12 year old dog that is a couple years behind on vaccines. When I was young and first got him, he went regularly to another vet. I was about one month behind on vaccines with him and I was what felt like “scolded” by the veterinarian. That stuck with me to this day. From then on, I would just use the mobile vet shot clinics to get his vaccinations. Since he is older, I wanted to get established with a vet for when the time comes that he may need more extensive care. I chose Compassion based on the experience I had with our pup. They were great! I didn’t feel at all like I was being talked down too and if anything, they made me feel like a great dog mom!

Our baby spent years with this veterinary service. Routine shots, checkups and a couple of other minor issues were in order for her throughout her life. We depended on them for our Bailey's care. A couple of weeks ago she suddenly was down with something that completely disabled her. My wife called and asked for emergency help. This was about 10:00 in the morning and all we were offered was an appointment at 2:30. As though we were being worked into Compassion's schedule. When my wife asked about something right away she was told that 2:30 was the only choice. And a comment was made that the vet had to even have time for lunch while we were in need. I called back a short time later and got the same response. 2:30 was it. I asked about other emergency vets in this area and clueless is the only word I can think of. In other words, when we desperately needed them Compassion was not there for us. A few minutes later I recalled and called an animal emergency hospital near here. told them of our situation. Our dog was down and we were scared. They immediately told me to bring her. We immediately did so. When I pulled my vehicle up in front of the door, two ladies came out before I could even exit my vehicle. They were waiting for us. One lady took our baby from my wife's arms and immediately scurried into the building. Everyone involved paid unbelievable attention to us. Although we were not in the same room with Bailey, we had updates every few minutes. The vet came to us after a short time. I hate to even type this, but our baby could not be saved. The staff there seemed to be nearly as upset as we were, while doing all they could do. That's all we could ask for. They were amazing. And Compassion Animal would not even try. . . . .

Justin was so understanding and compassionate in our time of sorrow. We left knowing our fur baby was in good hands. He put our minds at ease answering all our questions and our hearts comforted by his kind words. We will highly recommend this service to anyone who has to go through this difficult process . Thank you again Justin and to the staff.
