How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great team that truly cares. I took my dog in for an early appointment and the staff was very professional and sympathetic. They took the time to listen to my concerns and examine my under the weather dog. After that the team created a wellness plan. They never pressured me to get something I didn’t need and only told me what they truly suggested. It was also surprisingly affordable. Will come back again!

We stumbled upon this facility when our usual vet could not get us in. Time was of the essence and I was able to book with Vetco quickly and easily. We took our 15 year old jack-a-bee in to be seen since she wasn't eating. Dr. Cadera examined her and gave us options. She was extremely professional, realistic, and let us make the best decisions in the care for our girl. We were able to take her home, did what was prescribed, and had over a month and a half of good life with her. The time came suddenly for euthanasia to be the only option and we rushed to the office. They quickly got us a room and we were pleased to see Dr. Cadera walk through the door. She loved on our girl and went over the entire process with us. She gave us plenty of privacy and was incredible through the whole process, with as sad as it was. We couldn't have asked for any better care for our girl in her last hour. We received a condolence card from the staff at the office. The personalized note from each member, and especially the doctor, was so heart warming. Though we ended up using the office for a heart wrenching situation, everything went so smoothly and we are forever grateful of the care they provided for us.

If i could give them zero stars I would. They don't read records from past vet. You hand them all records including birth cert and they put in any date that pleases them. This place is trash! They don't care about the fur babies. They only care about extracting more money from you! Like rabies shots done every 3 years. They told me I have to get my pups rabies shots done or they won't give me prescription for flea & tic. Tried to explain to them it was done 2 years prior. They didn't care. Still proceeded to tell me then no prescription. Facility is a joke!

Anaais and Natalia were amazing and so sweet! I adopted a stray cat (Pepperoni) and took her in for a visit to check on her health. They were so kind, gentle, and informative. They provided Pepperoni with all her needed vaccines and an ear cleaning (her ears were a black pit that are now white thanks to them). Anaais was great since she went out of her way to provide me with helpful documentation about microchipping and even helped me give Pepperoni some ear drops for her ear infection. Got in on time for my appointment and came out with much more information than I was expecting, thanks to these 2 lovely ladies. 100% recommend since they certainly do care, as well as go above and beyond for your fur baby!
