How to Save Money at Colony Plaza Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Even after what most of us consider a really challenging day, all 4 of our pets came home happy after dental cleaning and more. Dr. Drum and his staff are kind to their clients and pet guardians. I know, because all 4 pets were calm upon arrival home,--- and, I am including 2 chihuahuas and 2 adult cats! Thanks to all for you kindness and excellent care!

Do you love your pet? Do you love your money? Do you want the best Vet care for your pet? These are three reasons NOT to bring your pet to this place. They don't care about your pet especially if your pet is a senior animal all they care about is how much can they take from your pocket. In my case instead of treating my dog for the condition she was in, they informed me, as it was getting close to 5:00PM, there was no cure for her and she needs to be put down. That was the worst decision i have ever made. Later i found out from other Vets, a treatment was available that would have helped her problem and in turn she could have lived a few more years. Because of this I will never take my Pet to this Animal hospital again and i hope the folks reading this review will understand this is the worst Vet to take your best friend, your pet.

I flew down to visit my family for a week and took my 13 year old yorkie. He was having medical problems for a few months but I did not want to leave him home. While down there my dog got very sick so I called Colony Plaza and they told me to bring him in later that afternoon. They were able to get my dogs medical chart and consulted with the Vet back home. Dr Wagner and the staff took so much time with us and were very thorough. Unfortunately, when the blood work and all the lab results came back it was discovered my little buddy was in full renal failure. It was a shock and devastating. The entire staff was so compassionate and professional it made an awful experience easier to cope with . I was able to face time my children who loved our dog and they got to say their good byes. I cant thank the entire staff enough for so much care and empathy. They knew me and my dog for only 3 hours but they treated us like they knew us for a lifetime.. Thank you

My pup was not feeling well. We brought her to the urgent vet and they did what they could do for her and said we should bring her to her vet in the morning. We brought her to the vet where they did xrays and blood work. The vet stated there was a Mass in her belly and that we should send it out to get it read, which we did. We had to wait for answers until Monday that there was not a mass in her belly. Then the vet said she had kidney disease and there is nothing that could be done. She was getting worse on on Wednesday we brought her to the emergency vet in Leesburg. The vet was very informative and suggested 1 more blood test to be done to determine what was wrong. Blood work got done and my pup had Addison disease!!! Are you kidding me, the original vet never mentioned any possibility of anything else except kidney disease. I will NEVER bring my other pup there. I feel that he went to a disease that was easy instead of trying to figure out what was actually wrong with her. BE CAREFUL WITH THIS VET!!!! And lastly I requested a call back from the vet he was not in the office and no one else had the courtesy to return a call. Was told he would call me back onTuesday, didnt happen, it is now Thursday and still have not received a return call. In the end my pup was very ill and had to be put down. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE IF THEY ARE SICK THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU ANY ADVICE OR GIVE YOU THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS!!!!!!!!
