How to Save Money at Dr. Michael Dym, VMD

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cats have been patients of Dr. Dym for more than 10 years. I highly recommend Dr. Dym, who is a very caring veterinarian, and an excellent diagnostician and prescriber of homeopathic and nutritional remedies. I do phone consultations with Dr. Dym because I live far away. Dr. Dym has always been very responsive to all my requests for consultations, and has even called me late in the evening or on weekends if the problem was urgent. I like the fact that Dr. Dym has a background in traditional veterinary care, but has chosen to work as a homeopath. He has helped my cats through very serious issues -- kidney disease, vomiting, skin irritation and loss of fur. In every case, his remedies have helped my cats improve their conditions and live comfortably. I am grateful for the fact that homeopathic remedies work in a gentle and non-invasive way, with no side effects. It may seem like Dr. Dym's fees are expensive, but in the long term, he has saved me thousands of dollars, because traditional veterinary care would cost so much more than a couple of consultations with Dr. Dym. Over a year ago, one of my cats was diagnosed with a narrow and rigid small intestine and a mass in his pelvic area. My cat was vomiting every day. My local traditional vet said my cat would not live longer than 6 months. My local vet prescribed a laxative, which definitely helped my cat keep some food down, and Dr. Dym prescribed a homeopathic remedy, which reduced the vomiting to practically zero, and in fact my cat is feeling better than ever more than a year later! He has more energy, a great appetite and is a youthful playful kitty! I am deeply grateful to Dr. Dym, and am so glad he is available to treat my pets!! I do not know what I would do without him.

I have had several interactions with Dr. Dym for my fiance's and my 8 month Goldendoodle puppy. We first contacted him at 3-1/2 months because our pup hurt his shoulder pretty badly. Dr. Dym was very thorough and really dug deep on his questioning. We ended up skipping the allopathic drugs the vet had prescribed and gave doggo some herbs and homeopathic remedies. He healed perfectly. We also switched Mo to a raw diet at the direction of Dr. Dym at the same time and couldn't be happier with the results. Since then, we have checked in a couple of times, and Dr. Dym also made himself available in minutes for an emergency call last week when our fluffy bird brain ate half a bar of chocolate. Every step of the way Dr. Dym has been professional, does what he says he is going to do, and most importantly is very thorough and sharp. He obviously cares and operates with a high level of expertise. We expect to consult with him regularly for the duration of our dog's life. Thanks Doc!

Dr. Dym has done wonders for our cat. We searched far and wide and had many, many vets who could not solve the IBS/IBD problem. With the care and expertise of Dr. Dym our cat is feeling so much better and not vomiting every day. His entire personality has changed. It's been 3 years of suffering, surgeries, and expensive medications and still no results until Dr. Dym took him as a patient and evaluated and prescribed homeopathic treatment. We are so fortunate for our discovery of Dr. Dym. He's incredible with his knowledge and skills as a veterinarian. . Debra Shaub

Dr. Dym is truly a outstanding and brilliant vet. Michael has seen our pack through cancers that did not spread. He has cured vaccinosis tremors in our 8 week old puppy that was given 1 parvo/distemper vaccine. It's so disturbing the amount of damage that vaccines are doing to our animal friends. Michael has even stopped seizures and healed multiple aged lick granulomas on one of our dogs and much more that conventional veterinarians have no idea how to heal. Our dogs have lived beautifully for years after Michael started prescribing homeopathic remedies for them. He knows supplements and herbs very well too and how & when to use them. We work together via phone consults, we live in California and Michael is in Florida. I wish I had known Dr. Dym 20 years ago, I would have started our dogs in Michael's care immediately after we brought them home. I know their lives and our lives would have been so much more blessed with more joy had they always been in his care. I really don't know what I would do without him. Michael is a dedicated, God sent genius!

Our dog Aja suddenly started having neurological issues one night after being at dog daycare, we were beside ourselves trying to figure out what was going on. I took her to her local vet where it was seemingly a physical injury in her neck and she applied acupressure. It helped a lot so we thought it was the right diagnosis until she tripped running on the beach and presented more neurological signs. I then contacted Dr Dym for a consultation. On the intake, he commented that her symptoms presented as vaccinosis that we couldn't believe possible until we remembered there was a dog brought to the daycare that day that just had 5 vaccines!!! She was affected by the shed off of them in a near horrific way. Dr Dym saved her life! He knew exactly what to do to help her and that it did. We are forever grateful for his skill and knowledge therefore highly recommend contacting Dr Dym if you ever have ANY health issue with your pets, you will be glad you did. We cannot thank you enough, Michael!
