How to Save Money at Viera East Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our 16 year old cat, Vickie, suffers from some pretty bad dental issues. She also was recently dianosed with some other health issues which would make it difficult for her in surgery. The staff treated us with the most genuine care I have ever experienced in taking my fur babies to the vet. At other vets it felt like we were 'just another patient', but here it felt like Vickie was being looked at with the upmost care. The cat room was perfect for keeping her as relaxed as she could possibly be, and they even offered us a pheromone towel to try to make her more comfortable. It meant the world to me that they took care of her so well, and brought up other possible options for her dental issues, due to her age and other health issues, than surgery.

If I could give Viera East Veterinary Center greater than a 5 star review, I would. On June 1st my family and I said our final goodbye to our sweet, nearly 16 year old dog at their office. After calling them in tears earlier that day, they found a way to fit our girl into their very busy schedule. From the phone call to our dog's final moments, they demonstrated such care and compassion. Dr. Basabe was so incredibly patient that day. While I knew that our dog was gravely ill, I couldn't help but ask him several times if he believed saying goodbye was the right thing to do. He never answered with impatience. He didn't respond in such a way as to make my tears and questions seem ridiculous. This meant SO much to me. Knowing that I did what was best for a dog I loved with all my heart has made all the difference. I needed to feel sure. So thank you, thank you, thank you to Dr. Basabe and the staff that so graciously offered us the comfort room and all the time we needed with our girl. So many thanks to Dr. Bywater as well, for a compassionate and informative exam a month prior. And finally, thank you to the entire staff for your kindness and for the heartfelt sympathy card.

Wonderful staff and doctors. I'm always greeted with a warm smile in person as well as when calling the office. Both Katie and Jamie at the front are very efficient when calling in for prescription refills or food orders. All of the doctors are very patient and through with their exams and getting to the bottom of what is ailing my critters. Would recommend this office to anyone in need.

This morning I had a great experience with the staff at Viera East when I brought my cat for a visit. When I first walked in Deanna and Katie greeted me with a warm smile. Anytime I speak to Deanna and Katie they are so kind and warm to me. My cat and I were taken care by Dr. Credeur and Cresha was the tech. Both of them took their time with my cat and I. They never rushed while doing the exam and other procedure they had to do for my cat. They made sure that any of my questions and concerns today were taken care of. Besides this morning anytime time I go to Viera East I always have a great experience and the staff is always so kind to me.

We went here when we were stationed here back in the early 2000’s— when we moved back home we started back with them. It has been a wonderful experience. First when my older dog got sick they were understanding and even sent a condolences card signed by all the staff— it was very touching and appreciated. Now we have a puppy and let’s just say he’s had a little bit of issues so we’ve been there quite a bit since we got him a couple of months ago. They are so patient with me freaking out. They love on my dog— even when he is acting like a crazy pup and they’ve always called back when I had questions and been caring when we’ve had to go in for emergency visits. The vets, the technicians and the front desk staff are literally just wonderful and I feel very blessed to have them looking out for my Murph
