How to Save Money at Brandon Lakes Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Rodriguez and his staff are amazing! He is knowledgeable, patient and caring and always goes above and beyond for our dogs. The facility is welcoming and clean. And, the cold laser treatment option for injury or aging is excellent. It can be a little busy at times in the waiting room and appointments might get delayed but, it’s worth the wait for the quality of care.

We had just moved from Michigan and our 4 year old lab started having seizures. They got us in extremely quick on a routine welcome checkup. This was one of the best experiences we’ve ever had. They made it very comfortable and easy to discuss our concerns and needs. They did not force any unnecessary shots, treatments, etc. They truly love and care for your animals. I Highly recommend bringing your animals here.

I have a senior, 12 year old dog named Max. Dr. Taggert has taken care of him through so many things and her and the staff have always provided exceptional service and i always feel safe leaving my baby in their care. Through no fault of his own Max over the years developed pretty bad teeth. After some Concerns about putting him under anesthesia, We finally went through with scheduling his cleaning and several extractions. Momma and max were both anxious upon arrival yesterday and Sarah, the vet tech helping my Max, was amazing. She helped put me at ease and assured me Max was in great hands. Their communication is awesome. They let me know when he was going under, when surgery started, and when he was in recovery waking up. Max did so well with anesthesia this time and when i went to pick him up he looked great, although ready to come home! He ate when he got home and has been resting but I am so so pleased with how he is doing. His remaining teeth look amazing, he will be able to eat normally in a few days, and best of all he won’t have health issues coming because of bad oral health. I cannot say enough good things about Brandon Lakes. The prices are a bit high at times, but they do their best to discount where they can and honestly, i will pay for the amazing care my furbaby gets. Thank you all so much for taking such good care of my baby. 💕💕💕

I was recommended Brandon Lakes from a friend after leaving my previous vet and I could not be more happy. From the very beginning they showed me how much they care about not only myself, but my fur baby especially. I spent more time speaking with the Vet at our initial visit than the entire time collectively at my previous vet. They are very friendly and thorough as they familiarize themselves with Molly’s health history. I could not be more satisfied that we found an Animal Hospital that truly puts their furry patients above all else.

I absolutely love Brandon Lakes. My first visit I was thrown off as the vet I was supposed to see, wasn’t in and I didn’t know until I got there so I had to wait for a little bit. But then I got Dr. Rodriguez and he is amaaaaazing! Along with nurses Holly and Megan. They are the best. I love that they take the time to explain everything that is happening and provide the invoice/costing before the treatment plan. All the ladies at reception are incredible and treat my little Astro with so much love and care. I won’t bring him anywhere else!!
