How to Save Money at Animal Emergency of Pasco

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

“I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this animal hospital. When I arrived, there was a random cat hissing and swatting at other animals in the waiting room, which was quite unsettling. After they took my cat to the back, I waited for over 4 hours without any communication. When they finally called, they claimed my cat needed a barrage of tests, which was not expected for the simple procedure I brought him in for. The initial estimate of $1300+ suddenly increased by $1000 for overnight treatment, which was unnecessary. The communication was abysmal, and they failed to inform me about the tests and medication my cat was receiving. In the end, they couldn’t even provide a clear diagnosis, and it felt like they took advantage of me, charging $1300 for a seemingly bogus issue. Adding to the frustration, they carelessly cut two of my cat’s nipples, which were bleeding when we got home. It’s evident they were negligent in their handling of my pet’s care. Furthermore, they forgot to remove the wrapping on his leg, showcasing their lack of attention to detail. This hospital appears to prioritize their profits over the well-being of the animals. I strongly advise against taking your pets here.”

My dog went in while I was out of town and ended up needing emergency surgery. The team kept me in the loop every step of the way and intimately saved his life. Was it inexpensive? Nope. But it was worth every penny for the expertise of the staff. My big man is doing well and is back to work now.

Dr. Larratta and all the staff were very kind. They took good care of my sick kitten and he's back to his usual busy happy self this morning. I'm surprised to see him spring back so quickly because he was really sick for 3 days prior. I'm grateful we have this emergency clinic nearby.

These guys killed my dog. We brought our little chihuahua Hercules in for some respiratory issues and they gave him so much medication that he went into total kidney failure and toxic shock. Besides his breathing issue he was fine eating and drinking and getting around. We thought they could maybe give him some O2 or something but when we picked him up later he was lethargic and in distress. We took him home and he got worse and we could see he was not tolerating the massive dose of meds they gave him. They asked us to bring him back and they did nothing to help him and charged us another $300 on top of the $700 from the first visit. The next day when our vet was open we brought him in and they were appalled at his BUN numbers but it was too late and he died later that day (yesterday). These crooks happily took $1000 from us this weekend which resulted in the death of our little buddy. There irresponsible treatment and malpractice was the cause. I will be reporting them to the appropriate agencies and licensing authorities and I am also speaking to a lawyer about recovering my money and the damages they caused. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THESE PEOPLE! They are worse than thieves and we are absolutely broken hearted by what happened. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. 🙁
