How to Save Money at UrgentVet - West Orlando

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Just WOW! Had to take our 5 month old Mastiff to see UrgentVet West Orlando tonight and I am blown away by the level of service and care we received. From the very first call I made to them this afternoon, their online booking system (and updates to let you know if your reservation will be delayed), to the actual hands-on care…exceptional service from start to finish. The whole staff was awesome but I have to shout out Nadia and Dr. Dosher as they are EXCELLENT! We received a detailed treatment plan and a thorough explanation of every item on the plan. Their staff is super friendly and efficient, and it’s obvious how much they truly care for animals - definitely their calling (and thank goodness they answered it)! We can’t thank this crew enough!

They were so wonderful to us, My Lab Dakota was in distress and we went there to put her to sleep. They were very caring and the room that she passed in felt like home. It was a blessing to find them in time to help Dakota be at peace and having our other dog be there with us to say goodbye Thank you for making it easier for us to let her go and showing us that you really care about everyone that comes to you for help

We are new to the area & was referred by a local vet for immediate attention. Upon our arrival Angelina greeted us with smiles and asked appropriate questions for the doctor to have an understanding of my fur babies conditions. Dr. Vega was through, knowledgeable, prepared and exceeded all our expectations. She performed a through exam, she shared the findings of X-rays & bloodwork. She addressed all our concerns and advised the best plan of action to get my dog feeling more like himself. Dr Vega referred several veterinarians that we could consider for further care. She called early morning but we were asleep, then she followed up the next day after sending me the report to make sure we understood everything. Thank you both (this seems so minimal for such an exceptional experience)! Not wanna say we would be back but it great to know you are there if we every should need your services in the future. Blessings to you both!!

Summer is my 9 year old cat and he had never been to an urgent vet before just because he had never had any problems. The only thing he goes to a vet his to get his yearly shots. It was a scary experience! Very scary 😟 But the Dr. And the Nurse was absolutely amazing I felt that my baby was in good hands and they explained everything to detail. My 16 year old was with me the whole time and he said to bad this is an urgent vet and not a regular vet because they are amazing. Again thank you for all you do for the animals.

Absolutely the best and professional team!! We called several urgent vets around and got same uncertain answers. When I called UrgentVet I got a straight positive answer. It was pretty late, wait time there was like 150 mins and even with that my kitten was examined right away by assistants. They managed the help my kitten and everything ended up fine also they gave great after care recommendations. Personal over the phone and in the vet is extremely friendly, they know what they are doing, they care about animals. I agree that we all have different experiences, but me and my kitten loved the atmosphere there! We will definitely come back! Thank you so much!!
