How to Save Money at Emergency Veterinary Clinic Niceville

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Pat Boone and I want to thank their loving and compassionate team for saving seven year old Bailey, our standard poodle. Dr. Shannon Quillian with Jenny, Jessica P., Ashley, Megan, Crystal, Lex, Donnie and Christina as a surgical team, we highly recommend them. This was a very rare condition, twisted colon which required major surgery that Dr. Quillian had not performed before. She did exceptional! We thank God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit for their guidance and protection over all us.

While I cannot comment on their care of animals, I can comment on how they helped my soul dog transition into the next phase of life. At the beginning of December, I had to rush my 12-year-old dog with Hemangiosarcoma and heart failure to this clinic. Dr. Gray and a male vet tech, whose name I did not get, were incredible. They did not make me feel uncomfortable for wanting to listen to music during it, they were extremely gentle, and made this as perfect as an experience as it possibly could be. I hope Dr. Gray reads this, you crying along with us, you asking to perform a Native American prayer over him, these are beautiful memories that helped to replace the awful memories of that night. I’m forever grateful to you, and I thank you.

We brought our kitty in on a Sunday from Pensacola. Our emergency vet in Pensacola had an eight hour wait so we made the hour drive to Niceville. As soon as we got there luckily there were only 2 people ahead of us, just like an emergency room for people, they triage! While we were waiting another cat came in who was in critical condition, so obviously he took precedence!! A lot of reviews complain of a long wait time, I had no issue because each loved one deserves the best care possible. Once we got back it probably took an hour and thirty minutes total to formulate a plan, financials, labs, X-ray, and wrap everything up. Everyone was very reassuring. Dr. Gray explained everything very well and even made sure we didn’t do unnecessary tests to save us money. Fortunately nothing was seriously wrong with our cat but nonetheless we got top notch care and peace of mind! Thank you for a great, comforting experience for a stressful situation!

They seem like nice people, but their priorities are a bit off. Our cat, a young mother of five three-week-old kittens, suddenly vomited blood and had bloody diarrhea. We called our vet but they couldn't see her and suggested we take her to emergency care. So we called the ER and told them what time we'd be able to come with the cat and what her symptoms were. They said we should bring the kittens as well. Okay. Thirty minutes later, we arrived, filled out the paperwork, and then waited. There was no one else in the lobby. The exam room doors were closed, so there were clearly other patients, but they didn't tell us anything. No big deal, it's a vet emergency room, we expected a wait. An hour went by before one of the exam rooms opened for us. In that time, two more animals arrived, both with the same issue - injured leg, but not bleeding and they were able to walk. We got in the exam room with the giant crate, momma, and her five kittens. Thirty minutes later, one of the vet techs came in to tell us they had other emergencies but that they would be right with us. Another hour later and I went to inquire about getting the momma cat a bowl of water and maybe a litter box, ya know, since she had been in a crate for going on three hours. I was told they can't give us water or food, but that they would see about the potty issue. Thirty minutes later, we were getting upset. Momma cat was getting upset, and we still hadn't been seen by the vet or given a litter box or any consideration whatsoever. I went to the lobby to see what was going on and discovered a couple had just brought in their dog who had been hit by a car. We were there for three and a half hours, our cat never received an exam, no vitals were taken, and for all they knew she could be bleeding out internally. Who knows? We didn't, and they surely didn't either. I feel bad for the dog and its owners. I hope the ER takes better care of them than they did us. As we left, the clerk suggested we might owe for the visit but she had to check. I asked why? She said because there was writing on the chart. Ya know, for the cat that never had vitals taken and no exam was done. I believe their hearts are in the right place, I just don’t think their priorities are.
